haha sorry for the confusion.. ok here goes
i bought the sli kit, had it installed, and had problems with it turning off whenever it felt like it. we checked the connections and redid it and then now there was no display on the screen and no sound. we took out the HU again and checked and after an hour found out there was a missing harness. plugged that back in, display worked again and sli still didn't work. called vaistech, they replaced it and the new one works perfectly. hope this is clear now.

So, have you had any problems since that last post of yours?
I guess it may be a bad harness...the VAIS engineer said it could be that. And the fact that the problem is still occuring with the unit out (but with the harness in) may further validate that fact.
I hope that's all it is, though...this is getting me nervous.

Great thread. I must have missed it by the general title...

now that i remember, i thought it was the harness after reading other people's posts, and i got a replacement harness at first, but that wasn't the problem so i ended up getting the entire unit replaced.

This happend to me two days ago after installing the SLI unit.
Never had a problem for the last 9 months prior to installing it.
None of the radio buttons would work not even the on/off
switch. The steering controls would not work and the display
screen said Audio Off.
The SLI unit worked when first installed. I then removed the
iPod while playing which is when it started to go haywire.
(Thought it was alright to do so since the iPod screen said
Vaistech - OK to disconnect).
It was pretty scary, I tried everything.
Tried to unplug the SLI with the harness in place and pull some
fuses without luck. I was beginning to think that the HU
was damaged. Then I took out the SLI harness and it started
to work normally again. So I reinstalled the harness and the
SLI unit. It has been fine for the last two days since.
There are a lot of treads on the Vaistech site about the audio
cutting out. They do have some issues that they recognise
and are performing firmware upgrates for. In my case it
might have just sent out some corrupt signals over the
AVC bus to the head unit. My fingers are crossed.

I think the common thread here, although our symptoms are all different, is that VAIS has a problem with either the SLI unit itself or the actual HU harness.
I have both on their way now...we'll see what happens.
If this is the case, then VAIS really needs to step up the quality, if you ask me. Grounds for a class action suit. I mean, I really like the product, but I would never had bought it had I known that these problems would occur...
Thanks,
Ed
