I used to have a G35 coupe (fast) and recently a G35X (faster!). Getting an IS250 AWD, I think you should have the mindset of "balanced luxury and power" rather than "pure performance. Not to say that it's a slouch, it's definitely got a decent, stable powerband. Either way, I think if you want a true "driver's car," you might want to find a manual transmission car before looking at power anyway. I'm still happier driving the IS.
I will say that during aggressive launches, I think: "Wow, the 35X is a beast..."

I am very happy with the power in the 250AWD, the AWD gets you off the line fast and holds you tight in the corners!
The only time I feel this car is *slightly lagging is on the highway, excellent cruiser but doesnt pick up speed fast....90mph+
But you shouldnt be driving at those speeds anyway ....so what does it matter
Keep in mind there is ECT Power which makes the car feel quite a bit faster and lighter on its feet, shouldnt be compared to a G35 though

I couldn't be happier with my IS250! I came out of a '04 IS300 and that car was heeeeavy with the iron gasket. I feel this car is lighter, more nimble, and faster. Plus I'm notoriously heavy right-footed which is a no no. I don't need the temptation of racing at high speeds on city roads and highways - that's too dangerous. And you know what? I don't miss the extra power from the 350. The 250 is PERFECT for me!
