Enough power in the IS 250 AWD ?
I am considering the IS 250 AWD but am disappointed by the low horsepower, especially when compared to the G35x. Is there any chance that the 250 will get a boost in power in the next year or two ?

honestly, i think its the perfect amount of power for me. My 250 is a daily driver so i really have no use for the extra HP in stop and go traffic.........
I always laugh at those who have to do the fly by to beat you to the next traffic light.
Yeah im satisfied with the level of power or i would have not bought the car.

Me too... although my wife drives it alot.. I see that the it can produce enough power to get to illegal speed limit on the highway real quick.. I have no complaints.. it has enough juice

Enough power = Yes
Would like more power = Yes
You can't compare the IS250AWD to the G35X. The G35X is not a full time all wheel drive car. It's a RWD and power will only be sent to the front wheels if there is slip in the rear.
The question is, how well does a system like this work? It only takes a split second for a car to lose control in a snowy/icy road. On any other types of pavement, the part time all wheel drive might be enough.

I thnk the AWD has enough power. I would take more if they offered it, but it is more then adequate. I also find it handles great on the highway. On turns at high speeds the car sticks to the road like glue. Even in wet conditions.
I would love to see how it handles in snowy conditions, but so far we have got next to no snow here in Toronto.

When we were buying a BMW 5 series, we test drove the 525XI and the 530XI. The power in the 525 was underwhelming and I would have been pissed if we bought it. The 530 is definitely the more appropriate engine for the car. Again, a test drive will bring great clarity to your decision process.

I find that the 250 AWD has the perfect amount of power. It's great when you have to accelerate on the highway to change lanes, the power kicks in pretty fast...enough to leave dust for the guy behind you. I preferrably wanted the AWD for its safety features and did not buy the IS for its superiority in power.

I dont have an issue with alot of excess HP, the more the merrier but i think that for most people the IS250 is perfect for daily needs. I would love to buy a 350, but the excess costs in regards to overall cost of ownership does not justify the want vs. the need.
I want more HP and speed, but ultimatly i dont need it.

I didn't think that I needed any additional power when I bought the RX 330. Then I test drove the RX 350. Does anybody really need that kind of power, obviously not....but is it nice....absolutely. It seems as though the pervasive attitude is that the IS 250 is "fine", my observation though, is that compared to the competition it is on the low end of the horsepower spectrum. I realize that Lexus never really gets caught up in the horsepower wars but compared to what is out there, the 250 really should have between 250 and 275 hp.

So no, our AWD system is all 4 wheels powering itself at all times.

A word about the AWD IS 250. It is a system with a default torque split of 30% front, 70% rear; based on either detected wheel slip or--perhaps more likely--wide-open throttle conditions, it can have a 50:50% split.
