If it is designed like the 4th gen 4Runner, nothing will happen.

haha yea I wondered about this too. A few months ago I went to put my car in neutral (just trying to see how good of gas milage i could get from school to home), however i accidently pushed the stick to far, but pulled it back half a second later. nothing happened but i think you would have to give it at least a second or too since there is a noticeable delay when u go into reverse.

Is there a safety feature that wont let it go into reverse after a certain speed?

what about park?
The ISx50 will let you put it in reverse while driving. What happens is the engine will continue to run and the transmission will just be neutral. Your shifter will be stuck/locked in reverse the only way to move it back to drive or neutral is to tap the brake to release the shift lock. You will hear a ticking noice which is the plastic parking lock on the transmission called the Pawl. If it happens breifly it will not damage the transmission since it goes to neutral and the logic function stops it from shifting to reverse which would build up pressure and blow the seals and damage the transmission. This is what the head mechanic at my dealer told me after I ask them this question a few months back. But I also remember him saying the shift lock stops you at lower speeds altogether something like 15mph and lower since the engine rpm is low and the logic function may allow you to shift in reverse so they lock it out as a precaution. Lets just say a FRIEND of mine did this on there loaner car on accident at 70mph and verified the mechanics statement which is what prompted me to ask the mechanic in the first place and I can say I agree with the mechanics statement

Nothing will happen if you simply press it... If you press and HOLD it however, the engine will die.

Next time you bring your ride in for service and get a loaner, give it a try.

I've tried it before, while I was driving on the highway , I quickly shifted to "R" and nothing happened for like 2 seconds and then I quickly shifted back to "D" ...I'm used to driving manual so I just shifted accidently while braking...but it seemed fine..doesn't jerk or anything..

Nothing will happen. If you have nav, the rear camera will come on. I 've been in a couple of different Lexus and the same thing nothing. Like someone said earlier you have to be going faster than 15 or 20 mph!!!!!!
