Well, I thought at my age (39) I had mellowed out and would appreciate the fine amenities the Lexus IS250 had to offer.
Well that all went out the window after visiting my folks out in LA.
I decided to go test drive one of the new GTI's because I started to want a more fun car. Unfortunately for the GTI the salesman also sold Nissans. So what does he suggest I test drive..... why a 350z. Now I always liked the new design when they came out in 2003 but never really thought about getting one.
That all change after the test drive. Fortunately for me the young salesman wanted to see how I could drive the 350z since drove the hell out of the GTI.
The second I sat in the car I knew this was good. I always loved the sports car seating low to the floor. I also very much liked the low roof line and the cockpit feel it offered.
Once on the road I instantly enjoyed the torque and power that was available, (you 350 owners know what I mean), there were several times we came to an intersection that was clear of cars so I blipped the throttle dropped it in second gave it some gas, the rear end came out as I feathered the gas the car calmly came back and accelerated off.
This car is freakin fun. Even though it weights as much as my old is250 it sure doesn't feel the same. Much easier to drive at the limits.
So when I got home did some research looked at a bunch of new and used cars and ended up trading in my is250 RWD and getting an 2006 350z two nights ago. The tax savings made up for the difference I would had gotten if I sold the IS private party.
God I love this car. It brings me back to my days in the RX7 except with a lot more power. Guess I'm having an early mid-life crisis, LOL.
Good luck to all of you, I've gotten a lot of good information from this site and enjoy your rides.
Peace out.

I did the almost the exact opposite also. 6MT G35 coupe to IS350.
No regrets here. The exhaust tone and looks are about the only thing I miss about the G. I had the front tire feathering issue, the pull to the right, rattles up the yin-yang, road noise, crappy bose, rocking seat, etc. I couldn't afford to keep spending $600 to replace the fronts that were bald on the inside and still had the new center bead. The last straw was the the car's vehicle skid control kicking in at totally random times. Scares the crap out of you when the car brakes one of its rear wheels out of the blue.
I love the ML, the fact that there are no rattles, and I can talk to my g/f without having to raise my voice from the road noise. Oh yeah, the acceleration is also very gratifying.
JJ, I sincerely hope you have better luck with your Z than I did with my 2 g's (I had a sedan before the coupe.) The key is finding a good dealership in your area that won't deny your warranty claims. The guys on the Z forums will help you out there and let you know when you're getting BS'd.

Feel your pain on the skid control and the tires. Went through 2 sets on the front for every set on the back. The skid control once kicked on while I was making a turn and almost got t-boned!
The ML blows away the bose, even with the sub behind the driver's seat.
Glad to be in my IS.

everyone has their own priorities and what they look for in a car. If i wanted a car just to be fast and not much else, i would save my $$ and buy a STI or EVO. if i wanted a prototypical "sports" car i would buy something along the lines of MX-5,s2000,rx-8, GTO, etc......however i need to be comfortable and i drive for a living so i need something nice, comfortable, and fast. Until acura makes the TL rearwheel drive, looks like the IS350 is a good fit.

I think the overall story is the 250 does not satisfy SOME peoples needs for performance like they thought it would.. This is the reason why I took no chance and got tha 350!! I can honestly say tho, if my car was exactly the same but a 250 I would be unhappy too.. NO offense meant to those who are satisfied with their 250's

Damn, boosted mustangs are trouble.
My buddy had one, 289, 7 psi through the supercharger...3rd gear was tractable power from 25 up to 95...
And if we're starting a pissing contest, how come no one has one of these:

or one of these (in tripod mode no less):
