The IS-F was developed, tested and refined at several of the world’s most famous and demanding racetracks: Nürburgring, Fuji International Raceway and Willow Springs. The result is a sport sedan that not only challenges the finest European sedans, but even surpasses the daunting performance of its predecessors, the IS 250 and IS 350. In fact, the IS-F sets the performance bar higher than any Lexus we’ve ever made. At the same time, it never forgets that it’s not just any sport sedan–it’s a Lexus. So while intensely exciting, the IS-F is never anything less than civilized.
At its heart is a powerplant that says a lot about the IS-F’s priorities. It’s the most powerful gas engine ever found in a Lexus: a direct-injection 400 plus-hp [3] V8 that delivers more than 350 lb-ft of torque [3] and a 0-to-60 time well below 5 seconds [3] [4]. To keep you in synch with so much power, the IS-F offers an eight-speed direct sport shift transmission with paddle shifters that snap quickly and crisply between gears, always providing you with superior control. Closer to the ground lie massive six-piston caliper front brakes more than adequate to the task of restraining the IS-F’s 19-inch alloy wheels [5]. Wheels, by the way, that are forged, so they’re stronger and lighter than more common cast wheels. They’re also another reason the IS-F, unlike many of its competitors, is fuel-efficient enough to avoid the costly gas guzzler tax.
The IS-F turns any drive, from a weekend excursion up mountain roads to your daily commute, into a chance to feel exhilarated and in direct communication with the road. Everything affecting the IS-F’s handling has been tweaked and tightened, from its specially tuned suspension designed with stiffer spring rates to its bigger sway bars. A lower center of gravity and a lower ride height push the performance needle even further into the red.
Along with its lower profile and wider stance, the rear of the IS-F features two dual exhaust tips in a staggered, vertical design. It’s a configuration other drivers will find themselves admiring quite often, whether they want to or not. Inside, along with all the luxury and quality you’ve come to expect in every Lexus, are some pleasant surprises. Like aluminized composite interior trim and aggressively styled front sport seats that feature larger side bolsters for when tight corners beckon.
The new Lexus IS-F offers a unique combination–extreme performance and serious comfort. So whatever the demands of the road, or your state of mind, the IS-F will keep you satisfied. Eager to see more photos of the IS-F? Satisfy your curiosity at
