Default Dealer said NO !

I am at the dealer as we speak.... i asked the service dept to disable my DRLs and they said NO because its a safety issue. He claimed that people come here all the time for that but they can't do it. I told him he was crazy because DRLs are not mandatory in the US. They still refused to do it.

WTF!!!

I've read similar stories here before. The dealer is probably concerned about liability exposure. Try a different dealer.

I tried too and got rejected. Maybe you can bribe one of the techs.

News flash !!!! The dealer doesn't have to cater to your request, whether it is legal or not. It is his call. Just as he doesn't have to paint your car orange if you so request, he doesn't have to turn off the DRL's if you ask. Unfortunately we live in a sue happy country, so who needs the hassle of getting your business sued by someone who gets hit by a Lexus where the DRL's were adjusted from the recommended Lexus setting?

Find another dealer who is not so concerned about exposing his business to the possibility of a lawsuit. I can sympathize with the dealer, there are just too many ambulance chasing lawyers out there.

The dealer in El Paso told me the same thing, and gave me a couple of other excuses afterwards, but finally I convinced them to do it

i think the best way to do it is when you get your lps settings set. they already have their computer attached to your car so it'll only take em a few seconds to go into the drl menu to disable it. and always ask the tech that's working on your car to do it, rather than the service advisor.

I wouldn't disable a safety feature either if I was the dealer. Why should they? There's really NO good reason to disable the DRLs anyway.

i agree with this........ it opens them up to litigation if you get hit, or something else related goes wrong.

Don't they make you sign a waiver before they do it?

I offered to sign a waiver releasing them from any liability in regards to turning the DRLs off. They still refused. Oh well!

its a liability issue, no more, no less

well as i was getting in my car to leave, he came up to me and gave me his card. he told me to call him and to come in on a day that's not too busy. He said he'd do it for me. i HONESTLY thought that the drl disable option was part of the LPS that they do. ohh well.

No it isn't. DRLs are not required by law. SRS is, and disabling it is quite illegal without jumping through a bunch of hoops. Completely different issues. The dealer saying "We won't do it" has no legal grounds to refuse. It's their preference, period.
