My 250 needs an oil change soon, so does my RX 350. The nearest lexus dealer is about 100 miles away, so I think I will do it locally. I am so worry about this dealer would put the worng type of oil, or filter into my car. It is a toyota dealer in a small town that also services other GM cars...
Futhermore, in 2000, I got my celica from this dealer. Within a week, the engine check light was on. The tech there got two codes appeared on the device he was holding, but went ahead and reset the CEL and told me it is normal and the car was fine. After taking it to a dealer in Columbus,OH, it turned out that those two codes were for misfiring and two new ECUs and two sets of injectors were put into my car that year to get my car fix.
So do you guys think I will be better off by having local shops to change my car's oil instead of my local toyota dealer, or, my only choice is drive 200 mile round trip for an oil change??? DIY is not an option.
Thanks!

I would let my local shop do it.. since I know the guys but they don't have the tool or filter or it was something.
I say go where you are comfortable.
I took my car to the toyota dealer on Saturday.
Was a 27.81 for the change. However, my sticker still says I have to change my oil every 3k miles instead of 5.. Going to call and find out about that. I know they used Castrol GTX 5w-20 and not the Toyota brand..
Anyone have any insight?

I think a Toyota service dept can do the job. I had my 10k change done at a Toyota dealer 20 miles from me, for about 45 bucks, instead of a Lexus dealer. FIRST, though, I called to make the appointment and to give them time to get the proper parts (oil filter, o-ring, washer, etc.) from whereever they get them - it took only a day.
Sewell, in Ft. Worth (120 miles away) offered to come get my car, then bring it back to me, anytime I needed service. At the time, I thought "Wow, great service", but after seeing what the Lexus dealers charge for an oil change, I now understand that great service comes at a price!
If you were in the oil-changing business, would you prefer I change my oil every 3k, or every 5k? The sticker means nothing. Follow the maintenance manual recommendations.

Would that be a bad thing to use a known-good and respected brand of oil over some unknown brand that has a Toyota sticker on the front of the bottle? For all we know, the Toyota-braded bottles could contain Castrol oil.

Shoot, I know what you're saying. The new Honda had an issue with radial pull, and so I had the front tires replaced by Michelin under warranty. They were the same tire model and spec, but the lettering and graphics on the tire were different. I'm thinking to myself "great, are they really the exact, same tires as OEM? Maybe I should've just left it alone".

this is my 2nd visit to a toyota dealer for the is350 oil change. the light comes on every 5k, so I'll use that as my warning. I was told, could be mistaken, that the oil filter for the IS is the same as a new camry? Still $28 for each oil change is fair and fairly quick.
I would call ahead and tell them you're bringing your lexus in.

i was just told that in the other thread that dealer's for the 1st free oil change use regular motor oil... not even synthetic or full synthetic...
from what i understand you shouldn't switch from regular to full synthetic (because i plan on using full synthetic) without an engine flush...
is either of those true? because i'm trying to figure out why i would take it to lexus if they're only using regular oil? Yes it's free but...it's just regular oil. it doesn't make sense.
from factory does anyone know what they put in for oil? whether it's reg, synthetic or full synthetic...
oh and i would just go to your local dealer... 100 miles? for an oil change... that's CRAZY!......no it really is
