5W-20 is going to be like water in hot summer 100°F days-I may stick with 5W-30

Default What cSt viscosity?

I voted 5W30 since in the Mobil brand it is one of the few left that has a pour point of -54C. Their 5W20 is at -47C.

But when summer comes I will be putting Amsoil 5W20 (assuming it will be out by then). If Lexus says it's safe to run it than I am in. Considering I am putting synthetic and they are approving regular 5W20.

What I would of like to know is what cSt viscosity they recommend now at 40C and 100C. Since all 5W20 are not always the same thickness at those temperature. My guess would be around 8 cSt @ 100C is the thinness recommended.

My dealership has a contract with Castrol, and they mentioned something about having this through Lexus corporate. Of course, that could all be shyte and I woudn't really know, but looking at the Castrol line, they show either 9.0 or 9.1 cSt for all their 5w-20 oils. The OGs at BITOG claim 10.0 is ideal, but all their 5w-30 and 10w-30 oils are 11.0 cSt at 100C.

Mobil 1 is 8.8 cSt at 100C in their 5w-20. Amsoil's 5w-20 is 8.5 cSt at 100C. Red Line 5w-20 is 9.1 cSt at 100C. Pick your poison.

That may actually be true. My dealership uses Castrol as well....

I don't understand why they would issue a TSB that states to use 5w-20 in 3/06 and not have it in all 07 reference material.
