Anybody doing a clutch on a Supra has a 3 or 4 foot 1/2 drive extension. It's mandatory. It's really fun getting a torque wrench on those bolts too.

I started fetching wrenches for my dad when I was 5. I never imagined taking a car or motorcycle to anyone for service when growing up. When my mom divorced and I saw how MB screwed over my step dad at every turn, I vowed never to be unintelligent about any machine I own. I just can't do bodywork for beans. I don't have the eye for it at all. I can barely do touch up paint.

That said, I did take advantage of the free service at 5k just so it's in my car's service history. From here out though, it's all mine unless it's a true warranty issue.

I've even passed up on true warrany issues just to make sure it was done right. My S2000 had 2 failed rear wheel bearings before the warranty expired, but I still replaced them myself at my own expense.

You need to be better friends with your service manager. You'd be amazed what they can do.

I've never even met the same service manager twice. I've always had Hondas, that didn't need repairs often enough...

agreed. i've had the same service manager the entire time. he'll fit me in, try to fulfill requests, etc. when you know them well, they'll help you out A LOT more. same goes with parts managers as well.

I think once people tear apart their first engine with a service manual, they'll realize its not all that hard to do most of the maintenance yourself, with the proper tools.

When I build my dream house, its gonna have at LEAST a 3 car garage...and one of those stalls is gonna have a pit. Its also gonna have one of these in it.

That thing's 17k =X

Since u said WHEN you build your dream house, I'll wait for it, and you can help me service my car =P

I'm actually surprised so many people have all their service done. I guess when people talk about it, those people just happen to NOT like servicing at stealerships. I've bugged my service manager a lot, but he's a really cool guy. I had to take in my car in today again for rattles and stuff, and he's always helpful. Hopefully the actual service people won't do anything...uenthical/unprofessional. So far I trust my dealership though ^^

it helps knowing that my friend is the person actually working on the car. otherwise, i probably wouldn't be taking it in to them to do any non-warranty services.

damn straight. You see how big that thing is? Its 12 feet long. It is definitely the mother of all tool boxes. Heck, I could just buy two of them, and build ramps, and have my own mini-pit without even digging into the ground.

I'm in for doing it all yourself UNLESS you have no clue what you are doing. If its not in warranty then I will try myself before taking it to Lexus or any other place. CL is very helpful when it comes to trouble shooting and fixing stuff, great picture by picture DIY threads.

Does anyone know if I didn't bring it for the 15k or 30k service, would it give the dealer a reason to reject warrantee claims in the future? I too rather do all the maintance myself, which I'm more than capable of.
