Default what's the best solution for DRL if they must be left on?

I know there's quite a few threads on this but I still haven't seen a good solution for the yellow DRLs.

LED is pretty much out because you'll lose your hi-beams, I heard they just flicker and go out with the reduced DRL power.

I don't want to put a blue bulb in there either...(I don't like the way it will make the headlite assy blue when its not on, like when its parked).

HIR bulbs are just as yellow I've read but bright as hell when your highbeams are on.

Is there any reason they *must* be left on?

Turning them off seems to be the easiest solution.

I shut mine off...but then again I have the factory software . It literally takes about 45 seconds to do this.

easier said than done....most dealers won't disable them for you....something about sueing them if you're in a crash or something.

Yes I remember seeing people posting their experience when they made such request.

But DRL is not required by law, and in many instances, you need to turn all lights off BY LAW.

If your dealership is not willing to cooperate, tell them that you need to visit the military base (whichever base is nearest to you) and ALL LIGHTS need to be off as you approach the gate, even DRL's.

Is that really gonna work? cause i hardly ever turn off my lights when i go through the base. They never tell me to anymore. Ever since cars started coming out with DRL and automatic lights, the base guards never asked me to turn off my lights ever.

No cheap solution if you have to have them on. My dealer in Austin took mine off. With the different power used for DRL and high beans I don't see a solution expect to rewire or pay someone to turn them off. Color will always be a problem with the DRL having the same bulbs as high beams. Too bad the bulb doesn't have two filaments, that might solve many problems and headaches.

I kindly asked my service tech and he turned my DRL off. If you are persistent enough I don't see why it can't be done(I first asked a lady who didn't know anything, and then asked to see a service tech). Even if you turn them off you can still use your headlight switch to turn them on(the little "."). This supposed law isn't enforced nor followed even by other automakers(even some Toyota's have a switch) so I can't see them using that as an excuse. If they do, simply state that you want to be able to regulate the lights just like one regulates his or her own headlights to turn them on during the night.

My main reason for turning them off was if you are in your car, even without the engine on, but the start button is red/orange(meaning you can listen to radio, watch movie) the lights are still on. At night this is so annoying.

I thought someone had successfully replaced their DRL's with LED's after discovering that they were two different bulbs?

Technically ALL LIGHTS need to be turned off as you approach the gate, regardless of the light intensity. Because the guards can not see inside the car if it is coming towards them with the driving lights on. As for DRL, the intensity is so low, so the guards probably let you by because he had no problem seeing inside your car --- However, it's still against the rule. The guards didn't enforce it doesn't mean that it's ok. So it's still a valid argument to bring to the dealership.
