Default Anyone get snow chains for stock 18'' rims?

I'm going to be taking a trip into some snowy terrain. Well, hopefully the roads will be completely clear but the chains are a necessary precaution. Does anyone have a recommendation for snow chains? I have the stock 18'' rims with the stock SportMaxx tires.

Hmm, I don't want to spend a lot of $ because I don't think I'll use them very often. What about getting a cheap set that is matched to the stock tire size?

snow chains are prohibited on most city roads, and only allowed on remote rural roads/highways because chains damage asphalt. Besides, having to put the chain on/off is a hassle.

You can get a set of steel wheels and some decent snow tires for under $800. If you only drive in snow once or twice a year, then just switch to a good set of all-season tires to drive all year round

I don't think all-season tires will pass inspection when it says "NEED CHAINS".
Does not matter how much you spend on 18"+ snow tires, CHAINS mean CHAINS.

well only if the is350 was AWD! just buy some friggin chains. stop trying to save the money. if you rather take the risk and crash your car then pay a couple hundred bucks then suit yourself =P

Do your IS a favor, and take a rental car (or a friend's, who is already prepared).

Don't chains mess up your rims?

What are cables?

I didn't think chains were able to be used with the 18" wheels.

Steel wheels won't clear the brake calipers on the IS350. In the sizes that fit the IS350, tires alone will likely be at least $800. (but if you drive in snow, definitely worth it!)

The one I have fits really well and I don't think it will scratch the rim. It doesn't scratch the fender or anything. It's just a bit harder to put on with so little clearance but I guess I will keep it just incase in the future I'll need it. my friend they were in Tahoe last week and they said for some of the smaller car like IS with snow chains were sliding so even with snow tires is better to have a chain for back up.

You need to take your car in for some inspection, get yourself an RX350 loaner and you're good to go.
