Default Scratched my Smartkey pretty deep, any quick fixes?

so today after class i was riding my skateboard around the parking lot when my phone rang. i reached into my pocket, pulled out my phone and my keys fell out onto my skateboard. i then lost balance and stepped on my key by accident and it scratched against the grip tape. i now have multiple gashes through the back of my key any quick fixes?

If I were you just use your spare key. Unless you have a wife that is using the other key.

First day I bought my car I took out the battery and placed the key in a safe spot.

haha. i have no wife, thank god. i can barely afford a girlfriend but yeah, the spare is in my bedroom in the leather case. i would rather not use that though, the last thing i want to happen is for me to scrape the spare also...and the leather case is way too hideous for daily use. in my own opinion that is.

so it looks like your key got... keyed?

You need to take it to a good body shop. They might have to remove some panels, sand it down, paint the whole thing, put on the clear coat, then have your insurance company examine it to make sure they'll cover the repair.

I do, grew up in Vancouver, have skated since I was 8 years old, 28 now, two decades hard to give up now.

maybe you can replace the case. does the remote work?

I would personally put a leather case on it until there is some sort of after market products for the smart key.

haha...I have an IS350 and skate. In fact we have a 6' halfpipe in our warehouse...a little perk of having a business in the boardsports industry.

The way I see it, you have a few options.

1) Do nothing (probably the best thing to do)
2) Find a key fob on ebay, even on that is defective and swap the guts
3) Buy a new one from the dealer (not recommended)

^^yeah that would be the most logical idea, but i was thinking of maybe doing something cool like getting a custom skin or decal made, something along those lines.

i didn't think i would get such indifference by members of CL. tell me something, would you have given me the same responses if i damaged my key in a work-related accident rather than while skateboarding? does the fact that i messed up my key while riding my skateboard somehow emphasize that i am adolescent and therefore you would make the assumption that i am young, dumb, and irresponsible? okay you got me.

I don't think it was because of the skateboarding. I think it is becuase people aren't too concerned with a scratched key.
