Default Gear Shifts in 2IS...

Alright,

I just drove my car with the "Gear" display ON and found that EVERY time I come to a stop........the gear shifts from 6-5-4-2-1!

Why no 3?

I've never seen that before in other cars so, I am not sure if this is designed that way or not? Also, the RPM when I come to stop is around ~1200 range!! Does your's do that too....?!?!

There's nothing wrong with your car. Skipping a gear on the way to a stop hurts nothing, as long as the speed is appropriate for the gear ratio.

Your idle speed is fine as long as you don't notice the engine stumbling. If your idle is smooth, no worries.

Yea, I know it won't hurt it!

But, I was surprised when I saw it coz, never seen that before in other cars! The interesting thing is that my RPM stays over 1000 when I'm fully stopped.... Basically, it feels weird when I slam the brakes! So, I hit the brakes than let it roll and hit it agian....

Your RPM's should not be over 1K RPM's at a full stop in drive.

I believe that normal and it's how it is on other cars.

Agree, that is normal.

Off topic a bit here!
I stop using manual shift after my first and only time. I found the ECU is smarter than me because it can save more gas. Is it just me or happening to most peeps?

I have a 6-speed manual in and i almost always engine brake. During city driving I usually drive in 4th gear at around 50kph @ 1,750 rpm so when I need to brake I skip down the 2nd instead of 3rd because the rpm difference between the two gears at that speed is negliable and for me to engine brake I'd rather rev-match down to second for more braking effect.

This, of course, only happens during city driving when I'm purposely using higher gears as an overdrive for better gas milage, if I'm driving at highway speeds and turning into an offramp i would downshift/engine brake from 6-5-4-3 until I hit city roads speeds.

I guess your automatic gearbox was just doing the same as I was during city driving and would behave more "normally" when on the highway.
