if you really want to go all out, use a grinding wheel on it for a few seconds, then sand with 120grit paper until smooth, go up a few steps with the sandpaper, and THEN paint it up... that would take a few hours for each caliper though. i used to do this to the face of old amplifiers, but i would poilsh it as bare aluminum.
