Trade it in for a manual G35. Would probably cost you the same to mod up your IS.

Ah, most of my friends have that car. Besides, I wanted a 4 door and IMO the IS was the only 4 door car that looked good. I'll go with the JoeZ intake and Tanabe exhaust.

The 07 G sedan is actually pretty good looking, unlike the previous sedan model.

Anyway, not many options to get more power out of the IS250, without turbo, SC or engine drop.

Your best bet would be... rotational weight reduction.
lighter wheels, lugs and tires
Perhaps a lightweight flywheel and a stiffer clutch.
X-drilled rotors

Then
Drop what you can from the trunk( you can probably lose 100lbs, by removing the spare, and the jack and the plastic/carpet)
Exhaust = weight loss(probably another 20-30 lbs)
Racing seats. Power leather? Probably weighs 80-100lbs per seat.

So the difference between a base AT IS250 vs IS350 is only, $4280.

difference between the MT IS250 vs AT IS350 = $5450

I would just trade the 250 in for the 350, now you have 104 more hp and the 350 responds to mods much better than the 250 so your cost effectiveness will be greatly reduced....theres is even a supercharger kit out for the 350 as well. And who cares if its an automatic, compromise...a least you'll have the paddle shifters I got sick of stick and used to drive and EVO with close to 400 at the wheels, the way I look at it the IS is a luxury car with a little sportiness, I'll save the manual transmission for a real perfomance car like a vette or an Evo.
who the hell said anything about cost effective? any and every mod is a money pit, in the grand scheme of things any money put into a car is wasted money.

Put a bunch of stickers and decals on your 250, stickers and decals always make a car faster.
