Idiots rotated my tires!
I took my car in for 10k mile service last week, and ever since the service, I've noticed a scraping sound coming from under the car when I turn. I took the car back to the dealership (Lexus of Manhattan) on Monday, and they worked on it, and "determined" that a CD case that was stuck in with the spare tire was causing the noise. Now I'm not an expert, but the "CD case" was actually a tool case that I think comes standard on all IS's and is mounted near the spare tire. The noise was still there.
Yesterday I took the car back to the dealership. They said they would work on it more. I just got a call from my service rep, who tells me that the scraping was because the mechanics rotated the tires, putting the rear on the front and vice versa. So the wide tires were up front, and that caused the noise.
It seems to me that these people are morons. a. How could you think it was ok to rorate the STOCK TIRES on this car? It's not an aftermarket mod - it is STOCK! b. How could you think that the tool case in the spare tire compartment was causing a mechanical rubbing noise? c. How could you not notice that this was the problem the first time I complained about it?
I'm picking up the car tomorrow morning and I am super pissed off at them. Any advice you guys have would be great. I'm expecting to get a lot of free stuff, if they ever want to see my face (and wallet) there again.

I understand your frustration, but if I were you I will ask them to thoroughly check if there are any damages and get it fixed pronto. Get your free stuff (if you can) and never go back there. Who knows what will happen next time you're in for service.

They said they checked for damage to the suspension and didn't find anything, but I don't trust them. If they admit that they caused damage, that is just more work that they have to do for me for free. I may call Lexus corporate and ask them to provide a complimentary inspection at a different dealership.

That's pretty bad. When I was trying to determine the best size/offsets for my new wheels, I put the rear wheel on the front to check for fitment. The tire was rubbing against the spindle and it was very apparent that it wouldn't work.

I had read that this happened to ppl before, so I checked on the side of the tires that the arrow for tire direction was pointing the right way. I figured if they had rotated they just would have put rear left on rear right, front left on front right. When I saw that the direction was right, I figured everything was ok. It didn't even occur to me that they could be so dumb as to swap both rear tires for both front tires. Also I park in a crowded garage, so it's hard to get a good view of the tires since there are so many other cars close by.
But you are right, I should have noticed the mistake too.

Wow, you should definately report this dealer to Lexus Corporate so their license is revoked. Customer Service has been the bread and butter of Lexus ever since it launch in 1990 and for something like that to happen is not acceptable.
I'd say you should ask for a new set of rear tires since there may have been some rubbing damage caused by the front inner suspension.
oh well, at lest now you know you can't fit 255's in the fron on a 45 offset!

BTW: get reimbursed for the shop charges on the rotation.

Let's get real, Lexus Corporate is NOT going to pull a Lexus license for one incident such as this. There are legal issues, and plenty of money tied up in these franchises. These dealerships are not given, nor taken away, easily. I would certainly inform Corporate of this incident and look for them to completely inspect, repair and certify that no long term damage was done. And depending on what the tires look like I may ask for a new set.
