Default "EF" Option for IS - What is it?

Some of you will start seeing "EF" listed as an option code on the allocation lists from the dealers.

I wanted to show you what it is, because before my car was delivered, they told me it had an extra "EF" option, listed only as "Rear Bumper Applique". I immediately jumped on and did some research here whie I waited for my car to come in and didn't find anyone that discussed it. I then Googled it and found it was a rubber strip on the back of (mostly) Toyota vehicles. Unfortunately all I found was pictures of Scions and Camrys with it, and they were almost all black strips on the rear bumpers to protect them while unloading the rear/trunk (kind of like what a Lexus RX would have). I panicked because I thought "that's going to look hideous" on my Tungsten Pearl.

When it finally came in, I was relieved to see it was like a "clear bra" clear guard for the rear bumper - I actually think it's really cool because the Lexus logo is on it.

See the faint line [oh, and my Matador Red lawnmower too ]:

See the line + logo:

How much did this option cost you? In my case I don't find this useful because the IS trunk is low. I doubt I can and will put something big and heavy in there. But the Lexus logo is a nice touch.

It added like $67 to the MSRP. This was a car that was found through allocation, so I had no control over what was on it. So it was either accept it, or wait another month or so for my special order without EF...I REALLY like the subtle Lexus logo on there - and in hindsight I would have ordered it with this if I knew about the option. So if you want it, the code is "EF". It doesn't show up on Edmunds, Carsdirect, etc. for the IS, but you can choose it if you build a Camry on Edmunds...

What I was told (and I have no way to know if this is true) is that West Coast Region will begin ordering with this option for most of the loaded IS350s that come wth Nav + ML - don't know if it's going on other packages. He did show me a database with the western region vehicles on allocation and most of them did have EF, categorized as a PPO - Post Production Option before it gets to Port - don't confuse it with PIO - Port Installed Option.

Now I'm wondering what other hidden MFG codes are out there??

That's a new one. Personally I don't like things stuck onto the paint as it will eventually discolor and collect dirt at the edges. The trunk is so low on the IS that I can't see any benefit to a clear covering there. But since you had no choice, I guess it's no big deal.

I work at Toyota Logistics in Georgetown where most accesories are installed on Camry, Avalon and Solaras and we install these on all Camrys out there. I am glad to see we can get one for our cars, i think there a good idea. Pretty easy to install also.

I wish my car had this. My dad was unloading something out of the trunk a few weeks back and just barely rubbed against the bumper. I now have a very minor, but noticable to me, scratch there.

I bet I'm not the first person this has happened to and that's why it's available now.

So that's what it was. I kinda figured that was it, but wasn't sure. All the info I found was the same as yours. It looks pretty good.

I actually think it would be useful. Considering I just found a darn scratch on the top of my bumper. Now how'd that happen? Oh well.

small scratch on my rear bumper as well....I used a Meguiars mild cleaner wax to get 95% of it out, but it scared me - I'd like to try this thing if its not $99.

I checked at my dealership today. They can order it. It is "not compatible" with Parking Assist. Basically, you'll have to cut where they overlap the sensors.
