powering after market amp
Ok i've searched and searched and can't seem to find anything on this topic. Maybe I'm just retarded and everyone already knows this...but...
If I'm not mistaken the factory amp is in the trunk correct? If so, can I just split the power wire going to the factory amp and also power an aftermarket amp? This way there is no need to tear up the interior and run extra power wire to the trunk. All I'm looking to do is add a 10" sub to the factory system so the amp won't be more then 200watts i guess.

The factory power wire is 14 guage, just big enough to power the factory amp, and nothing else. The wire does have a 30 amp fuse under the hood, something that the factory amp and an aftermarket amp together would blow easily. Run an 8 guage wire with a 40-50 amp fuse next to the battery (before the wire goes through the firewall) to power a 200 watt aftermarket amp.

There is a 3" grommet just behind and to the left of the battery that a wire can be ran through. Most likely you will have to take the battery out. There is some factory wiring going through the center of the grommet, so be careful about punching a hole through the side. And remember to put a 30-40 amp fuse on the wire between the battery terminal and the grommet.
