Default Oil Leak TSB

Read it and weep, Lexus has released the rumored oil leak TSB. I noticed some oil on the front of my motor during the last oil change, thought I was just imagining things. This is like my third major issue with this car, I am starting to get P*SSED!!!

Not only is it real, but it's a real PITA job. Engine out of the car. Thats bites hard.

Glad mine has 20k now and zero leaks of any kind.

Check against this list. Also, this repair only applies if you are having a problem. If you are NOT having a problem, be happy and leave well enough alone!

Thanks for the reply. I know not to touch anything that is not broken. I was just curious to see what is affected. Luckily, my car was not on the affected list.

As covered as the engine is, it might be challenging to see from the top. You'd be better off having it checked during a normal service. Lexus will have to do the work anyway, so you might as well avoid being inconvenienced twice.

This is not a recall, it's just something to tell service advisors it's a known issue with a prescribed fix. Your engine will not be harmed by a small oil leak, it will just be prone to collecting dirt and looking bad for the most part.

If I had the problem (my VIN is well after the affected group), I would have it fixed, but I wouldn't worry if I couldn't get it in until the next regular service.

I know my VIN # but where do I find which plant it's from? Is it marked in the door panel?

It's the 7th number from the right counting left. Next to the "6". 5 is Tahara, and 2 is Kyushu.

Thanks Pocky.

Crap my car is affected. Took them awhile to fix it at the manufacture plant since I bough mine only in mid-June. Anyone has a diagram or picture of where is the timing cover and/or the Camshaft Housing Sub–assembly is? This is where they say the leak could come from.

What is the defective part or the fix anyway? Since it involves removing the whole engine it must be an internal seal of some sort?

I'm on the affected VIN list too. Has anyone actually seen/observed the leak, where can I look for it? A better question is, which covers to remove? I'm guessing the timing cover will be near the front of the car, and the camshaft housing sub-assembly is in the head, so removing the engine cover should be sufficient?

You know you see this post and you think, Oh Cr%p am I on this list? Lucky, I'm not I missed it by a bunch. But, I do agree, if you on the vin list and no leak, if it aint broke (no leak) don't fix it.
