How bad is the "rear seat" room, really?

The IS is a coupe with 4 doors.
If you need anyone to sit in the back, the car is not for you.
Don't kid yourselves. If folks do sit in the back and do not complain, they are just being nice.

I've taken five people in the car on just a couple occasions, and they never said anything... But that might have had something to do with the fact that I gave them lots of warning that if we take my car, they might not be very comfortable in the back. In other words, they might not have wanted to give me an "I told you so" opportunity, heh. Also, I'm sure it helped the situation that all three in the back were tiny 5'2-and-under women.
Four people, though, I know I can fit fairly well. There's just a little issue getting in and out in the back, but they can sit comfortably for 20-minute trips pretty easily.
I don't think they were just being nice. Partly because my friends aren't nice, and partly because I'm just a hair under 6'0", and I've sat back there with my current seat positions, and I was fine.

Four 6-footers is definitely doable, no one's knees are going to run into anything, but its not somewhere I'd want to be on a long trip (more than 1.5-2 hours). I've done trips around the Bay area in the front and back seats, and other than enjoying driving, I had no preference between the two.

there is no rear seat room. I'm 5'11 and i tried to sit behind my own driver seat and i could barely get one foot in. The rear center seat is even worst - my head is literally up against the roof so only kids should sit in the rear central seat.
But if rear seat room is a priority for you then you need the ES or GS.

I'm thinking the back seat works for my 7 year old son, my briefcase and odds and sods. I am only 5'10" and average size people always complain if they have to sit behind me for more than a very short trip. I do like the 4 doors, for convenience reasons, but the back seat really is restrictive. Still, I love my Lexus and am not regularly carrying passengers in the back, so no big issue for me.

I am chinese and I am about 5'11" and I could sit at the rear but I would be so happy if I have to sit for a long trip for sure... my wife like 5'4" she is fine so I guess if you are the driver don't worry about it because you won't be at the back any way... Also I will say the IS could only have four people in the car inc. Driver! not five!

If there are 2 other passengers I usually ask one to sit behind the front passenger but if there are 3 other passengers I usually put the sit more up right and closer in, but if no one is behind me I have it my way. It's not the end of the world to drive with the sit more upright and further in if it's just on an occasional basis which it is for me.

To me, it's practically a 4 door coupe. It's better than a 2 door because of convenience of entrance/exit for rear passengers, but not much room back there for good sized adults. My G35 coupe actually has significantly more legroom at the back than the IS350, just that he headroom is worse because of the sloping roof. I don't even consider it a direct competitor of the much bigger mid-sized G35 sedan because of the size difference.
I think that's one of the reason they may not even make a IS250/350 coupe at all, I personally think there's little point. Only a hardtop convertible version of the IS350 make sense.
