i'm 5'7-5'8ish... i had a 97 SC and it is really about the same size as the 2 door coupe i had. like someone said... it's a coupe with 4 doors... i sit with the "lean" so if anyone ever gets behind me i need to straighten up my chair unless they'll be pretty uncomfortable.

The rear seat room is just fine... I am 6'1" and have had a passenger who is the same height and we've had 3 adults in the back and everyone was just fine...

This was for like 15-20 minutes, driving around from place to place... Now, if you want to take a road trip (More than 1+ hour) it would be uncomfortable... But, if that's what you're looking for, then a compact car like the IS is probably the wrong place to look

G35 coupe has way more room than the 2IS has.

That's one thing about the 2IS that bugs me

I think the main culprit for the IS250/350 are the front seats - they're freaking bulky! My former IS300 front seats were compact and lean, thus giving a bit more leg room.

Just want to share my observations:

The fact that someone feel cramped in the back seat is because the room for the feet under the front seats is very limited. I initially thought that it was due to the extra footprint for the front seat cooling hardware in the already small cabin.

Then when I studied the all-new G35 sedan and the 3-series, they all suffer the same problem to various extent but they don't have the cooling feature. So I guess IS is not too bad in that light.

its not that bad for how small the car is. but if you are looking for more room for your rear passenger then go with the LS 460 L...that will take care of any issues. you can pamper who ever is in the car including your self!!!

we have back seats? This is news to me....lol.....actually I'm 6'2 and I have had a total of 3 people in my car (thats including me), and its OK for trips less than 20 min., but thats just my opinion. Also, I didn't buy this car to bus people around, if I wanted to do that, I would have gotten a bigger car....I just always assumed my is to have 2 seats and the backseats are pretty much for emergency...

Do you have long legs or a long torso ? If you haven't sat in/test drove the IS, I suggest you do so ASAP. I'm 5'10", but only have a 32" inseam, and I barely have enough headroom in the driver's seat. That said, my driver's seat is not pushed back very far, so another adult < 5'8" can fit behind me for short trips. The IS is my daily commuter, so 90% of the time it is just me and maybe another passenger. The backseat is fine for my 2 5yr olds, but it should not be relied upon regularly as a people hauler . . .

I'm 5'8" and find that I'd have a tough time sitting behind my seat. When I have people in the back I usually move up my seat a few inches, it makes my driving position a little less comfortable but its still not too bad. And the rear passengers get decent leg room. Now when my gf who is 5' drives it looks like shes driving an LS460 for the rear passengers... hehe.

There is more rear passenger room in the Corolla.

However, there is significantly more front passenger room in the IS...
