You are indeed paying for it so if it is a dealbreaker for you than just move on to next dealer. If the exact same car is available elsewhere at the same price than that is what you should do.

As to your original question I don't think they would be that easy to remove. My other car has pinstripes that are six years old and they look just like they did when put on, so the durability of a painted on stripe is pretty good. I'd be very careful of having them remove them as a condition of purchase.

Why do they install it anyway? nothing special, and most people prefer without.

Pin stripes aren't hard to take off, well depending on the quality I'm sure its just that vinyl stuff.

If you can get the end to peel off you should be able to pull it off easily. I recently just helped a friend remove pinstripes from his car.

I would hope Lexus is not putting the stick on type of pinstripe (at least they shouldn't be). A good pinstripe is always painted on, in which case removal is obviously far more difficult than a stick on type.

Right. But I'm assuming its a vinyl since it didn't come from the factory that way and its added on.

I don't see a stealership painting on pinstripes when vinyl is faster and cheaper. Maybe the fellah with the pinstripes can chime in and let us know!

No, a high quality dealer almost always contracts out for hand painted pinstripes. There are aftermarket specialists who do pinstriping for a living (cars, vans, SUV's). Sometimes you will see them sign their work (usually on the rear of the vehicle. Almost all of the pinstriping I see today is hand painted and not the tape type. Most customers would not accept a pinstripe that is not painted on today.

But you are right the OP will have to confirm how the pinstripe is applied on the car he is interested in.

not as bad as I thought. I think it give a bit more sporty look than the clean look. Do they paint on or it's a sticker?

Why would a dealer take it upon himself to pinstripe all his cars? I know we all have different tastes but I haven't seen pinstripes on new cars since the 80s. Not for me thanks.

Yes, it is painted on - not a sticker. I saw several IS in the process of being painted at my dealer. They even paint a little circle-L in the line, just in front of the front doors. On the TP, they used black. On other colors, it was different.

That is exactly my point. They should not pinstripe any car. If a customer wants them, then put them on the car. I just spoke to someone at the dealership and they are painted on. I would have bought the car today. The search continues.

The pinstripes did not look bad. Just not for me.
