it's a "how-to" guide. you can find the nav/dvd hack in the 2is FAQ stickie. why pay for info when it's free here?

He said it takes a 1/2 hour to perform. That's the hardware hack, not the button sequence.

It will not work on a 07 unless you build a hybrid DVD.

And if you do that, you'll be using the original software, which does an exceptionally poor job of locking onto satellites. With that software, you'll be running with dead reckoning (e.g., using speed sensors/gyros rather than a GPS fix) much of the time. And every so often, it will get confused and the map will show you driving through mountains or into the ocean, perhaps at a time when you need it most. That's why many of us with 2006 navis have had the dealer replace our discs under TSIB EL013-06 in order to get the updated software.

Well, not all of us '06 owners have issues. I am still running the original Nav disc that came with the car and have NO problems with my Nav or locking on to satellites . . .

So, you see the "GPS" indicator below the map scale indicator virtually 100% of the time? If you do, then great.

But if you think all is well just because you've never observed the map show you in the wrong place, then you have a false sense of security. The dead reckoning software in the unit works extremely well; before I had the disc replaced I had times when I drove for hours without a lock and the map pointer was still spot-on.

Yes, my GPS indicator is on practically all the time, and I typically have lock on at least 9 satellites. I have firmware version 1600 though, not the 1550 you had. I've only had the nav confused one time immediately after going through a car wash.
