Ever get 37 mpg before? I have...odd, though.

I can get 42 mpg on a whole tank of gas on my 95% flat highway commute if I lock the cruise at 65mph (I burn through a tank <3 days of work). I get 36mpg at 70mph for the whole tank. The first 18,000 miles on my car I had a lifetime MPG of 30.1. I've since had a lead foot locking it at 78mph, lower psi in tires, 160lbs of salt in the trunk, and heater on and still get 27mpg per tank. ---maybe my crappy clutch isn't so bad after all...

Not arguing about your claim of 42mpg. Maybe it's true. But don't rely on your built in computer. The most reliable method of measuring ave mpg is computing the old way. Reset your trip meter (odometer) when you fill up ur tank and the next time you fill up just do the math. Divide distance by gas put in.

That assumes your trip meter is correct. I've seen as much as 4% less than actual indicated on my odometer. The odometer has to assume the tire is a certain size, and not just the size designation, but has to include a component for tire wear as well. So it's never dead accurate for distance.
