I was wondering how can I identify a headlight with the AFS option? Will the part number be different on the headlight? The headlight I have does have the factory hid. Thank you!

 

Factory HID means you have AFS. They are not separate options on any of the packages. Easy check - use your satellite switch and look for the AFS option. If you don't have it, you won't see it.

 

So all factory HID has the AFS option? I bought a used factory replacement headlight, therefore have not hooked it up to the car yet.

Plus when I was at the parts counter they said a factory hid headlight, and a factory hid headlight w/ afs is different.

 

the one in the commercial with the rx looks like it works better than the one for the IS or maybe they're just exaggerating.

 

AFS comes with HIDS. Why are u replacing your headlight already..wouldnt that be cover under warranty?

 

Sorry to be a bit clearer, a family member's car got into a fender bender. Therefore one of the headlight was needed to be replace, I bought one to replace it but not sure if it is equipped with AFS.

 

The first time I drove my IS in heavy fog, I was surprised at how well the AFS was working. In clear weather, you don't always see it swinging around.

There are only two options for headlight assemblies. If you have one for HID, it already has the AFS installed. If there was an option for HID without AFS, there would be four options for headlamp assemblies with each left and right separately called out for a total of eight headlamp assemblies in the parts list.

So I guess I do have the afs on this headlight.

 

Is the AFS supposed to have vertical adjustments? I only notice my headlights moving left and right, but not up and down when going through steep inclines and declines.

 

You notice it everytime you turn on the car. They adjust up and down at each start up with the lights on. Or at night turn them off and then on.

 

Yeah thats the only time, but even when your parked in a steep incline it goes up and down to exactly the same level. This makes absolutely no sense to me. If your AFS turns left and right when you turn why doesn't it go up and down to increase visual foreground performance when going up and down hill like Audi's or BMW's

 

When your going up or down a hill it still wouldn't make sense for the lights to go up or down unless it could predict a down hill slope before you hit it . The car is still level with that type of ground. I think they level with the height of the car. IE... Extra weight in the car. Thats the way I see it.

 

You couldn't be more wrong. The HIDs are auto-leveling. They do go up and down based on incline and/or passenger loading.
