Plus, people always site "I got the 250 so I won't get as many tickets"... I'm truly hoping they are being facetious when they say that!! The 250 will get you going just as fast of the 350... just takes a bit longer to get there. You'll drive just as fast on a long stretch of highway in a 250 or 350... so that answer flys just as well as the "for the better MPG" answer.

Speaking of the MPG answer everyone brings up... let's do the math...

15,000 miles / year.
350 = 26.4 mpg (I'm using 70% city, 30% hwy for this calculation)
250 = 23.1 mpg (70% / 30% again)
Cost of gas = $2.70 (doesn't matter if gas in your area is more or less... the difference in the calculation will be the same in the end)

Anuual cost of gas:
250 = $1534.09 / year
350 = $1753.24

Difference = $219.15

Really........ is $200 worth not getting the better car??? No. Even if you didn't like the % I used in hwy vs city... let's make my figure $500 for arguments sake. It still doesn't make it a good reason not to get the 350.

Is $6000 more worth not getting the better car, yes... but I wished people would stop using the MPG argument as a front.

I appreciate the math, and I totally agree with it. But I will disagree with the fact that you think the 350 is a "better car" The cars are exactly the same except for engine, brakes, and drivetrain. of course its preference if you want those upgrades or not, but it doesnt make it better.

better said... "is $200 worth not getting the car you wanted?"

I hope that nobody on this board wanted the 350, but got the 250RWD because of gas mileage. And if so, I hope your math opens their eyes so that they do the math before making their next car purchase.

I don't miss the extra power. I drove both and the 250 is good enough for me. It's true it's just as fast as the 350 - once you get it up to speed, but getting there is a different story. haha

And $200 per year in gas money equals a new pair of shoes or a purse!

A better car for whose needs? Yours?

I think you need to relax a bit, the majority of people (including myself) said gas mileage was a plus, NOT the deciding factor.

Sometimes you just gotta have some extra power, however "power is nothing without control".

Power isn't everything.

Control is.

Part of that control is for me to manually shift gears in my car. Money was not an issue, if there was a Manual IS350 I'd buy one right away.

Now that the gas prices are going up i'm glad I got the 250 instead of the 350. Its like $3.30 now.

To the guy that did the calculation above. Lots of IS350 owners have gas mileage in the teens in the city. On my 250 I have never seen my display in the teens.

So I bet its more like $500+ a year more on gas compared to the 250.

Agreed - I did get a bit uptight on that one. Didn't mean to... truly sorry!

I just wanted to make certain people knew their facts instead of just throwing "better MPG" out there without really thinking about it. Maybe not in this thread but I know in others "better MPG" has been used as a primary reason (search for the thread about why people chose the 250 over the 350 and you'll see what I'm talking about).

Agreed again - I think the 350 is a "better" car... for my needs. And, I concede that someone else might not need / want the higher horsepower so to them, it isn't better because they see no need for it. Like I said - if the $6000 price difference is someone's reason for not getting the car, then I can COMPLETELY understand and respect that. But, if both cars were the same price would anyone get the 250? I doubt it (I'm sure some still might because they are afraid of the "speeding ticket" excuse I mentioned above... which I think is an invalid excuse. Just like the discussion in another thread about kids getting into wrecks no matter how fast / slow their car is... the same logic goes for speeding tickets.)... But, by using the thought that if both cars were the same price then most people would get the 350, I still hold to my statement that the 350 is arguably a "better" car. True, it is all relative... but would you not say the LS is better than the IS. It might not fit our needs, true. But, that's not what one refers to when using a strict definition of the word "better." I don't think anyone would say the IS is "better" than the LS. I sure don't want one (not now anyway)... but I can definately say that it is a "better" car.

In reality is it more than $500 a year. I bought my auto IS250 for $32,400 OTD the same IS350 would have costed me $39-43k OTD in So Cal.

So that is a $8000-11,000 difference just for 100 more hp. So I rather have that money in my bank than on a depreciating asset. I rather take the hit on a $30k vehicle than a $40k vehicle.

Not including insurance, tires because if I had the IS350 I would eat up the tires like it was nothing. The list goes on...

So IMO IS350 owners got ripped off.

100 more HP, 92 Ft. Lbs torque, and 4 piston front callipers with 13.2" rotors to be exact

None of us are arguing the fact that the IS250 costs less to purchase. We're saying that the purchasing decision between the RWD250 and the 350 should NOT be based ONLY on gas mileage. That is the $500 we're talking about.

dilemma:

supercharger would probably cost $3000-3500 installed. MPG for the 250 is gonna sucked.

then why not buy the 350 and save the hassle?

the only arguement for 250 + charger is for the 6MT owners.......

The supercharger would work for me i don't really care about gas mileage i just need a awd car. If i could get a supercharger for $3000 for this car i would get it in a heart beat.
