You get a lot of the same car as the 350, and that's probably why the HP difference has to be so big... any higher HP on the 250 and the price premium on the 350 starts going away.
I disagree. There isnt a need for the 350 to have 102 more HP to be worth the added 4.3K difference.

The BMW 335i is $6500 more than the 328i, while having "only" 70 more HP. Thats why they have to add chrome accents and such.

As for the IS350, the extra 102HP and the 4 piston brakes are worth more than the 4300 they charge for it.

As for the 250... its a great car. I feel its underpowered, but there are a lot of buyers who would disagree with me.

To be honest, that could very well be it. The 250 does move. Maybe not as well as the 350 but I cannot say it is total crap. However, there was just this lag when I was test driving it that made it feel extremely slow to respond...

I wanted a 250 because it's a nice car, not a gas hog and it has the same ammenities as the big brother the "350".
I rather commute in my 250 with style then in my old 04 Civic SI
I've clocked 30K in my car in exactly a year and I must say its holding up well for being my first Lexus.
I'm impressed with the service and the dealer has been A+ in taking care of my issues. The only thing thing that keeps driving me insane is that darn dash rattle, I'm about to take a bat to it haha..
Listening to that for over an hour while commuting will drive you nuts, I'm hoping that next time it will be fixed for good.
It wouldn't hurt if they bumped the juice a bit to lets say >230-240HP

I just picked up a 250 as a loaner. For a typical driver, the power is enough. For someone who drives fairly aggressive, it really underperforms. I'm glad I have a 350.

That is so true.

We forget that not all people on the road are driving enthusiasts like us...

Disagree... I'm not an enthusiast by any means. I don't race my cars or drive them hard. But, I do expect to have a car that will move on a dime when I'm in an emergency situation, get cut off and need to accelerate in a different direction, accelerate when merging onto a feeder road from a dead stop, etc. I tried all of these scenarios during my test drive and felt that the 250 just wouldn't GO! when I told it to. I'm not talking about 0-60 times. I'm just talking about in basic everyday situations I found the 250 felt very unresponsive and underpowered. Maybe this is just the torque playing with things but I felt as though my current SUV (VW Touareg) responded quicker than the 250.

Admittedly, I don't need a 300+ HP car. I find that 270hp is enough generally (for me). But 204 is just too "underpowered". Even for the standard everyday driver. Believe it or not, I even considered getting an Altima over the Lexus because of how underpowered the 250 was... then I came to my senses, decided to wait a few more months and save up... and am now in line to get a 350.

Of course, if money is an issue, then the 250 is a GREAT car in its own right. It's still better than a majority of the other stuff out there. However, if money isn't a factor I see absolutely no reason not to go with a 350 (other than AWD or MT).

But alas, to each their own.

Well if people find the 200 horses under powered perhaps they should be looking at the high end Camry, Altima, Maxima, or Accord.

So they aren't luxory cars but you get the power and for reasonably cheaper.

I drove a 250 this weekend as a loaner. And yes, it is underpowered, and it does feel very heavy compared to my IS350. I kinda wish I would have had an RX350 instead. = /

Driving enthusiasts drive BMW's. Pampered drivers drive Lexus's.

I wonder if this is the same feeling for the Porsche owners,... Turbo vs. Non-Turbo. If you had the money, wouldn't you just buy the faster one?

I don't think it is the same comparison.

ummm...the 250 is not underpowered. Had Lexus only made one engine for the IS and it was the 2.5 liter model then I could see someone asking that question. But since they also made the 3.5 liter, how could you buy the 250 and say that it was underpowered. That really escapes me.

And I agree, this silly gas mileage thing cracks me up. How can anyone who can really afford to purchase a 30++ car be concerned with an extra $200, $300, $400 dollars worth of gas in a year. But, I suppose those folks with the 48 month loans really think they can afford to spend that much for a car.

People purchase the 250 because they don't see the value in 100 more hp. The little gain in gas mileage just helps them feel justified.

If the cost were the same, how many 250 owners would be 350 owners???

No big deal that someone does not see the value in $5000 for 100hp. Had this car been for my wife, you can bet she would be in a 250. But not beacuase of the gas mileage.

Because both the 911 and 911 turbo are very fast. Neither one is underpowered.

I bet the guy who owns the turbo doesn't say that
