Planning on keeping a car for 7-8 years, best to buy new or used 06?

TimboIS i disagree with you i had TRADED a 99 mustang now it only had 36k on it but still got 11,000 for it on a trade. So yes there are modern cars still worth money after those terms. Mine was 7 years and 9 months old when i let it go.

Option A, but keep the Accord and treat yourself to the IS350 as a "second" car. They are great cars (The 7th Generation Accord), and a 4cyl is not meant for speed, but fuel economy, and the K24 engine is amazing and extremely reliable. Just my opinion, and obviouly money plays a role here, but either way, option A.

Whoops, I missed this...I can't agree with you on this. Honda and Toyota retain their value very well after 5 years, and Honda retains 60% of its value after 5 years with 'normal' wear and tear.

I bought my "used" with 10 k miles on it. And I saved a bundle on paying BRAND new for it. Honestly to me, buying new isn't worth the premium you pay. 10K miles are not that much and the car still had the "new car" smell. Plus you can pull the vehicle history report at the Lexus dealer. I sat through and went through every file before I bought mine. It had the 5k and 10k services done, one flat tire, and the nav was updated. Hardly anything major.
Plus it just happened to be the exact color I wanted. GFM. I would have preferred black leather instead of sterling, but sterling has grown on me.
Honestly it really comes down to what you can afford and what % of your income you want to spend on a car. Just make sure to think long and hard before your decision. But I say, if you're going to buy for the long haul(7 years plus) then save yourself some money on the front end, and buy a minimally used 06. I wouldn't buy one with more than 10-15k miles though.

And long term the cheapest way to own a car, by far, is to buy a gently used one and drive it until the wheels fall off. Buying, or leasing, for a 36 month ownership experience is the expensive way to go in the long run.
