I have had the pads for about 4 days now.

I only feel a tiny witty bit of a difference, and that's when it comes to the "grip" or "bite". Not enough for me to notice or care. Unless I'm actually trying to see if there is a difference.

The performance difference is too minimal for unacceptance. Is that even a word? LOL

I like it, "free" pads, less dust, still performs great!

Ya, I like the idea of free pads... The only downside is I would have to go to the dealer... and I like that "0" in my signature for # of visits to the dealer... I hope to keep it that way until I get rid of the car in 3 years

How about some advice: should I get the tires changed at the dealership at the same time (25k mile service), to sort of make the service department a little content by giving them business for helping me out? I mean, they're gonna disassemble the wheels anyways by that time...
i would ...it will only help you out in the future when you need a favor from them. tell the service mgr or writer that you are willing to have them performe that service to help them out for there time and trouble. they will get paid from Lexus but not much i would assume.

I read the original post, and I was proving my point.

Once again. The TSB says CUSTOMER. No what the service manager said. To argue in my mind is a losing battle as it says in pring.. CUSTOMER.

I guess service manager can say no all he wants but Lexus corporate would probably suggest that he do what makes the CUSTOMER happy since that is what the TSIB says.

I was about to go that route on my second trip to get the dealer. I have to say, it's actually depend on the service rep you get.

My first trip to dealer to get this TSB service was a total dissapointment because the rep I talked to was probably didn't even READ the TSB, but he was trying to pretend that he knows and said there's no freebie for the TSB, because it's not a recall. He's right, but if he'd read this TSB, he'd know that's there is actually a freebie because of the phrase "Covers under Lexus Comprehensive Warranty"

So for my second attemp, I printed out the TSB and prepared to go straight to the manager and skip the rep. Unfotunately, I got there late (5:30 PM) and the manager's gone . But, I got to talk take to the "Diagnostic Specialist" and he knew right away and even told me that I was the first to get it serviced so he has to order the pads. I didn't even have to bring out the TSB.

Two days later, I was called to bring the cars in get it done. They even resurfaced by rotor . To summarize it, it comes down to the service rep. Some are nice and willing to work with you and some are just plain @#$holes!

I've been driving with the new pads for over a month now. From my observation, there is a minimal difference in stopping at speed 30 MPH or lower. At lower speed, the old pads have a suction force. When you hit the brake, it feels there is a force that pulling the car back which I had a hard time trying to do a smooth stop becuase I couldn't apply the brake right.

With the new pads, that force is gone. At lower speed, the new pads feel like "regular" brake pad which is difference from the old pads. The feeling I got from the old pads at lower speed was a "sport" brake because of that suction force.

However, I can comment that at higher speed, 50 MPH and up, the new brake pads are similar to the old one and I couldn't tell the difference from the two.

My recommendation is this:

If you do a lot of racings (not driving fast) most of the time, you might stick with the old pads.

If you do a lot of regular drivings (including driving fast), go with the new pads. You'll see a huge difference in brake dust reduction.

It's just my personal observation. If anybody has a different experience, please share.

For those who thinking of getting it done, I hope you have a smooth journey.

Is there a list of all available TSBs so I know what to ask for when Ill go for my 10k service?

I know about brake pads, seat belts and engine oil leak in 350, anything else?

regards, Bart.

I dunno'. I just don't get this one. Getting free pads might be nice if you had some serious miles on your pads and you got to get a free brake replacement, but did you buy the IS for it's performance or not? I can't imagine guys over on the BMW forums even having this discussion. I don't see any problem with the brake dust. Sure, after a spirited drive you have a bit of dust on the front wheels. But two minutes with a clean towel and they are clean again. Field reports that 'the brakes feel the same' or 'performance is the same' don't mean too much. That's just seat of the pants analysis, colored by cognitive dissonance after getting the pads changed for FREE. You'd really have to do some comparisons; braking performance, fade, you know, real measurements. I think the complaints about the brake dust shows that Lexus owners, as a whole, really aren't into the performance aspect. It is still more about 'show than go'. Give me the pads as they were designed.

This is for most people that haven't changed their pads. Once time comes for you to get new pads they will be replaced with the new part number, they won't make the old one anymore.(that's what my service writer said). So if you don't change them now for free you will end up paying at the end when your pads get too worn out to get changed for free. So sooner or later you will still end up with the new pads.
