Default 5K service question

The 5K complimentary service is supposed to include an oil change, right?

A couple days before I went for the 5K service, my car began displaying an "Oil Maint Req'd Soon" message everytime I started it, and I figured I was fine since I was about to go for that service... but I just got my car back from the service, and it's still giving that message everytime I start my car. Unfortunately I didn't notice this when I left the dealer; I have no idea why.

Does it take a bit for this message to go away for some reason? Or will I have to take it back and ask them to change the oil? If so, I'm... not happy.

It should stay off after your service. You should give the service advisor a call and see what's up.

They probably just forgot to turn it off. The manual tells you how to do this.

Do this to reset/get rid of the message:

1. Press start once [Foot off brake]
2. Hold trip reset
3. Press start once [Foot off brake]
4. Hold until ----- disappears

Forgot to turn it off? Wouldn't that automatically turn off when the car performs it's diagnostics at start up and doesn't find any problem with the oil anymore?

OK, thanks, I'll give that a try... but it seems pretty strange that I would need to. I don't want to mask the problem if there is one. The message will begin appearing again if I really do still need an oil change, right?

i don't think the car knows how bad the oil is... it's programmed to notify you every 5k miles after each oil change.

Yes, the alert is totally a function of the mileage. It does not analyze the condition of the oil. I just had mine in for the 15k service and they forgot to reset, so I just did it myself, as Nuster outlined.

Thanks.
