Default Engine Racing on Cold Start?

I started my car this morning (around 30 degrees outside) and the engine seemed to immediately rev to 4-5k rpm. I didn't wait to see if it would stop, so I shut the car off. I checked to make sure that the mat wasn't stuck on the gas pedal (it wasn't) and then started the car again. This time it was idling at 1500 rpm, which is unusually high, I think. Anyway after putting it in gear and driving away, it dropped to less than 1k rpm. Anyone else encounter this?

That is normal. It is trying to speed up the engine warm up process

It is not normal for the engine to rev up to 4-5K RPM's when you start it in the morning.

When I start mine, it will idle at about 1300-1400 at dead cold.

The engine is IDLING at 4-5000 RPM??? Me thinks someone is exaggerating a bit... If not, you need to get that checked out ASAP.

Mini-meet at Javi's new place y/n

And, ON topic, 4-5k revs is definitely not normal. I think my instinctive reaction would be to jump out the car and take cover or something. If it happens again, definitely get it checked out. But chances are you just had your foot on the accelerator instead of the brake or something...

Haha, we already had a mini-meet yesterday! Terrance (T-Rex06), Allencakes (xtraboost), Tommy (Lexus GS3) and I were causing trouble on the streets of Pasadena... Actually, my street would be a cool place to have a photo shoot... Ian, where are you?
