You were on track for 40k miles of brake life. At the time you got your pads changed, you had used 82% of the available pad before hitting the minimum thickness (1.0 mm). That's not unreasonable IMHO.

A TSIB repair is free. However, you will not get a TSIB repair unless you complain about the condition addressed in the TSIB. It is not automatic like a recall is.

It's not good for engine service life. It wears the rings faster than just using the brake and putting in the clutch when you get around 1000 rpm. It also wears the clutch more than if you didn't downshift.

It is fundamental to racing because it's the best way to get around the track at speed. But keep in mind, racing assumes a much greater maintenance frequency and much more frequent parts replacement. It's just considered part of the cost of going fast.

I just had an 250 in for the 10K oil change. I let them know that my breakes were squeeking and that there was 'cut' in my passenger rotor. They're replacing both front rotors + pads under warranty.

Alldata used to have them accessible on the web, but now you have to pay to see them. Either at Lexus TIS http://techinfo.lexus.com or Alldata http://www.alldata.com.

So do you ever downshift?

Would downshifting as approaching stops (say under 2k-rpm) again, significantly shorten the tranny life?
