Default got warranty quote

I emailed my dealer and asked him about extended warranties. I figured if it was reasonable, i'd get one just for the peace of mind that comes with it. that, and i'll be putting on 25,000 miles a year at this rate...so 2/3 years and I'm stuck with the bills.

I know its a lexus and they are reliable, but nothing is perfect and ***** happens. there are so many electronic goodies in the car that i cant imagine if something breaks, it would be that hard to rack up a few thousand in repairs.

anyway...he emailed me back with this...

7 year / 100,000 mile = $ 2875

8 year / 120,000 mile = $ 3025

I obviously know the best time to negotiate this was back when i bought the car...but we dont have to harp on that.

anyone have any experience getting the warranty after x months/years after original purchase? Is there any room for negotiation?

Thanks!

wow, 8 years and 120k miles?

By the rate of what people are getting and not getting their car fix at the dealer, I don't think it's a good buy.

Don't get me wrong, having is still a lot better than not having it so it's still your call. I think if you take proper care on the basics then you will be fine.

if you're doing 25K a year, the extended warranty will only get you to 5 years max anyways.

A dealer in Dallas quoted me 7 yrs 100K for $2100... Sounds like your dealer is trying to rip you off. Shop around if you can.

also try other companies that carries MBI (mechnical breakdown insurance). They usually got a $XX deductible (no more than $200) and it cost MUCH less than $2875-3025!

i am calling these guys and see how much they charge:

I didn't know there was an 8yr/120K extended warranty, I thought it was only up to 7yr/100K. Anyways, you can call these guys. They charge $1855 for 7yr/100K with $0 deductible and they're are dealer in Greenwich, CT.

Had my 350 for a year now, and the other day I got a letter from Sewell in Ft. Worth, offering a 100k mile, no deductible, transferrable warranty for $2930. Don't remember if it had a time period limit, but I just trashed it.

When I bought my car there last December they offered $2300. How did you get such a low offer?

I think its smarter to just take that money and put it into an interest bearing account, for the one day when you might need it. You more than likely won't have to touch it, and if it works out in your favor then you win. Also if you plan on rolling the warranty into your car loan, factor in the interest as well, because it will cost you more than just the initial price.

With a Lexus I think you'll be fine. You are more than likely going to find any major issues before your warranty period is up. At that point you are going to have more expenses for maintenance rather than malfunctions I think.

If you have a bad transmission or engine, you'll find out before 50k miles.

But for peace of mind if its worth it, its your money.

Got mine through Geico. It's called mechanical breakdown insurance. Extended to 7 yr/100k mi. $250 deductible. $30/year. But I think you can only get it when you first buy the car and insure thru Geico.

my reasoning in getting an extended warranty would be different in a way. I not only want the big stuff covered but also little stuff like squeaks and such. I can only imagine what it would cost to find and fix a squeak at $90+/hr especially when now they sometimes keep the vehicle for 1-2+ days to fix the squeak. I am sure if I didn't have the extended warranty, I would just not get the squeak fixed which in the end reduces my enjoyment of the vehicle.

No. Thats a terrible deal. Infact you should be getting phone calls from other outside companies. They give better prices and most have no deductible, in other words dont go to the dealership for that just google it. I got quoted $1,800 on a 7yr/100,000 about a week ago.

How did I? negotiated with the Finance Guy.

Funny thing.... he was like... "Make me an Offer"

and I said.. "The offer I want to give u may insult you... so i rather decline"

then he handed me his note pad and paper and asked me to put down a figure...

so i wrote $1,000.00

Then he said.. we'll meet at $1,400.00.. but i declined anyway.
