Hey guys, I'm about to put on some new rubber but I don't want to fork out a grand for a set of Dunlops. 2 questions... For those of you who still have the stock 18" rims
1) What brand of tires did you replace the old ones with?
2) Will a 275 35 R 18 fit our stock rear rim? Is there any issues with the extra 1/2 inch?
Thanks

Just because you might be able to physically squeeze it on an 8.5, the sidewalls would be under to much force, they'd likely come off. Why would you even risk it! Just look at the manufacture spec for recommended wheel sizes: 9"-11" is the range, not 8, not 8.5, 9" and up! Can't say it any more clearly than that.

...as it seems like it opens the door for other tires like toyos and pirellis that dont sell the stock wheel size - most notably in all-season tires. I am in the same situation, i dont want to fork over a grand - especially on a leased car, so i will probably just get the Conti A/S tires, even though they arent the greatest - hopefully i can get my next 350 with a/s tires right off the bat.

Hi, you can go 235/40R18 Front and 265/35R18 rears on the stock 18x8 and 18x8.5 wheels. 265 is the widest on an 8.5" rim, and the 235/40 with 265/35 tires have similar overall diameter. I plan to do this when my stock tires wear out. I'm not a fan of the disproportionately taller rear tires and the tiny fronts...

Wow, tires are the only thing on the car that contacts the road surface, why on earth would anyone want to go cheap ??? If you didn't want to spend $$$ on replacement tires, why buy the Lexus IS ??? Just look at the specs, 18" rims, 40 series, unidirectional performance radials, max speed 140 mph. Tires are the last place I'd want to skimp on my IS350 . . .
