Dark Smoke

Dark Smoke
Well I just test drove an IS350 today with 15K miles on it. At one point when I pushed it a little (close to redline) I saw dark exhaust behind me. There wasn't too much of it but just enough for me to notice. The engine wasn't cold either, I drove it for a while before I really tested it. Is it normal for a car to do this or is there something wrong with this particular IS? When you guys rev the engine do you see dark exhaust behind you?

I have to ask.. I've seen black smoke come out of cars that have sat for awhile and then are driven.
When you saw the smoke did you "get on" on the car? Usually with cars that have sat for awhile, maybe two weeks without cranking they spit out that smoke.. I have a hard time beliving a new IS with less that 20k miles is burning oil.

I aint trippin this black smoke if it's not your fault but the car's.
Don't forget Lexus/Toyota like most Japanese cars not to forget Hondas are extremely strick on emmissions and this is a relatively new car mang....something is missing or needs topping up i'd say.

I was just thinking about the time i saw someone put gas in their diesel engine or vice versa - it was like 15years ago. THAT was a smokey experience!
Could this be a dirty fuel filter problem?

This is just speculation, but might make sense.
Say you NEVER really floored or pushed your car for X amount of miles. Then 10k miles later you decided to floor it. I think then you will see some sort of smoke on all cars if it wasnt pushed previously.
Carbon builds up on top of valves, and I'm sort there is some sort of bulid up in the exhaust system.
So pushing your car once a while is actually healthy for your car.

Take a look at this video of an IS 350 being revved.

You can notice the smoke coming out, so it's not just your car.
