Tire noise

Yeah the Re50s are friggin loud when braking. I have 4K miles.
My old 350 with Dunlops were quiet... however, IMO, the Bridgestones are a much better performing tire(or else the 07 IS is just better than the 06). Steering is more tight and predictable.
Its also better in the wet. So, I will take the noise and the bridgestone over the dunlops.

Well,
Lexus, said they are not going to do anything about it. The dealer said no, and Lexus customer care said no... I made my case that even though tires are not technically covered under the warranty, I didn't get a choice of tires on the car when I bought it and that I bought the tires/car as one package from Lexus, so why shouldn't they cover it.
It's amazing to me that I have to turn the rasio to a volume of 20 to cover the tire noise. yet my 16yr old galant doesn't have this noise.
You guys think I should contact Bridgestone? Tire rack racks the re050 as having a 7.x noise level... and they rate the re050 A pole position as having a 8.6 noise rating... should I upgrade to the re050 A pole position? Hell, maybe I can get Bridgestone to pay for some of it.

There are compromises with any tire. If you drop down to a 16" wheel with a 60% aspect ratio and put on a touring tire, I'm sure your IS will probably be quieter than your galant.

Hey guys,
Sorry been out of pocket lately. I have the Bridgestone Re050's (6600 miles). They grip very well but I cannot stand the noise...I am dead serious when i say that my 16 year old galant is quieter.
I stopped by the dealer today and had a brief chat with three service writers there. They each told me there was nothing they can do and that is the nature of an agressive sport tire. Well, I didn't like that answer, so I called corporate and explained that after spending 45k on a luxury/sport car, I shouldn't have to turn my stereo up to "20" to drown out the tire noise.
They stated they would speak to the dealer and call me back with a possible resolution... We will see how good Lexus customer service is.
If I am not mistaken, there was another member here that successfully made Lexus purchase different model/brand tires for his IS350.

Its a sound insulation issue. If you strip the car you might be surprised how little of it there is. Also note that tire noise is much louder on the drivers side than passenger side. Also the new foam based melt sheets are perhaps not as effective as the asphalt ones.

My 2 cents and "hello" from a new member,
Hello.
I am no doubt new to the board. I have had 4 Lexus cars in the past and was looking for another.
I test drove an IS 350 with the 18" sport tires and 9000 miles. All was well till I turned the stereo down. Whirrwhirrwhirrwhirrwhirrrrrrrr.......
I asked the dealer and he said this was a "quiet one". WOW
I have been this route before. Had a Range Rover do the same thing. Rover would not cover it and the Good Year would not cover it. RR pointed at Goodyear and Goodyear pointed at an intrinsic problem with the vehicle.
It was a nightmare. 2 sets of tires and a lot of out of pocket expense finally solved the problem with a set of Hankook tires but that is a lot of time and money to go through for a quiet ride in a "luxury" vehicle.
I have another sport sedan with 20" wheels and 25 series on the front and have absolutely no noise.
Perhaps it is a car + tire combination issue.
We really really really liked the IS but are not ready to deal with any expensive tire swapping issues.
I have searched the forum. Does anyone have a time-proven solution?
Thank you.

It's a problem for all of us second-gen IS owners. We all have it. And those who say they don't either aren't listening very carefully, or they're coming from a car that considerably more road noise. There's nothing you can do about it, aside from trying to sound-deaden your car, or buy quieter tires. Our cars have sport tires, and they're naturally going to produce a lot of road noise.

This is a common issue with a lot of factory spec tires from all manufactures. Bridgestone does make quieter sport tires. Tirerack is a good place to compare several models and what actual users have to say. You'll notice that many have commented about the tire noise, with the same tire, on a lot of different cars. It's the tire, period. But there are many other choices available. I hate it too. So when I replace these, my next performance tires will be rated higher in the quiet factor for sure.

If Lexus had made this car with all season tires, crappy brakes, and a smaller engine, everyone would have complained incessantly. Instead, they put sticky summer performance tires on it, fantastic brakes, and 306 hp...and people whine about tire noise, brake dust, and the cost of gas.
Please don't call Lexus with these complaints, or you're going to contribute to the dumbing down of a great car.

Bridgestone RE050A PP are much quieter than the OEM RE050. Both are vastly quieter than my Supra on 265/40/17 and 235/45/17 - and I really mean VASTLY quieter.
It is a sport oriented sedan. Road noise is impossible to avoid if you want any kind of feeling in the steering and responsiveness when you steer. If you don't like the IS, you really should consider the GS or LS. They are far more luxury focused than the IS.
