Tire noise
Hey guys,
I have 6700 miles on my IS350... I still cannot beleive the amount of tire noise I get when slowing down. Somewhere between 10 -30 the noise is pretty bad.. My 16yr old Galant Vr4 doesn't make this much noise
I suspect tire noise, because it is definately not brake noise or anything mechanical... I hate trying to describe sounds on-line...so I won't try..
Some of you guys please turn off your Sanjai Malakar CD and listen for road/tire noise from 10-30 mph...
I'm I the only one who gets this noise?
James

Mine is the same too...even my buddy`s 2007 altima with 20`s staggered, the only staggered I know of with front wheel drive. Rides much more quietier than my IS and smoother, and lowered 2inches. Oh well mine is faster..hahaha

It only gets worse as the tires wear. Mine have 24k on them now, and they are quite a bit noisier than when the car was new. I am on Bridgestone RE050.

All tires. I have the exact same sound, and it has got louder over the life of the tires.

Its the tires. I use to own a g35 coupe and they were notorious for it. Their factory specs has a negative camber that wore out the insides more which cause the tire roar. After replacing the tires, the noise went completely away. Check the tires if its more worn on the inside.

I seriously doubt negative camber from the factory caused your issue. I'd bet money it was too much toe in at the rear. It was certainly the case on my MkIV Supra.

Uhhhh, at least in my experience, almost all summer-only rated tire (aka - High/Ultra High performance) are always loud, and get much louder as they wear down...
This is nothing "new" or "unusual"... And it should have nothing to do with the car... I could put a pair of toyo T1-R on a rolls royce and you'd have loud tire noise...
e.g. - Toyo T1-R being the one of the best tires out there (for grip), they are also one of the loudest tires out there...

Dude, go to any infiniti g forum and search for "tire roar" or "feathering". Although both the fronts and rears had more inner wear, it was the fronts that that caused the noise.

Regardless, factory camber is so small that it is unlikely a camber adjustment will fix the problem at either end. Toe is more often the culprit than anything. You can trash a set of tires with bad toe in 1000 miles. It's nearly impossible to trash a set of tires from camber especially at or near factory specs.

Yeah, I agree with Technique. I Had a set of Goodyear Eagles once and they started out with a roar and just got worse as the miles added up. By 15k they sounded like Thornbirds, Buckshot Mudders. These Dunlops are quiet. I have had worse.
Try some 33 inch Canyon Climbers if you want to hear tire noise.
Brake dust don't scare me.

Hey guys,
Sorry been out of pocket lately. I have the Bridgestone Re050's (6600 miles). They grip very well but I cannot stand the noise...I am dead serious when i say that my 16 year old galant is quieter.
I stopped by the dealer today and had a brief chat with three service writers there. They each told me there was nothing they can do and that is the nature of an agressive sport tire. Well, I didn't like that answer, so I called corporate and explained that after spending 45k on a luxury/sport car, I shouldn't have to turn my stereo up to "20" to drown out the tire noise.
They stated they would speak to the dealer and call me back with a possible resolution... We will see how good Lexus customer service is.
If I am not mistaken, there was another member here that successfully made Lexus purchase different model/brand tires for his IS350.
