Default Can you tint side mirrors?

Okay, I realize this is a silly question.. However our side mirrors on our cars are obnoxiously big. I'm not complaining really, but they are huge!

I did not get the option on my car to have auto dimming side mirrors. I would really like this option, and I don't want to tint my windows to dumb down some of the glare at night. I could change the placement of my mirrors but they are set to where I can see everything around the car.. as it should be.

So my silly little question is, and this may not make any sense.. do you think by tinting the side mirrors that may stop some of the reflection of the light?

And if I wanted to upgrade to self dimming side mirrors how difficult of an install would that be? I really don't feel comfortable with the wiring system of my car being toyed with.. I really wish I would have got those dang mirrors though!

I'm not 100% sure, but I think tinting the driver side mirror (or obscuring it in any way) is illegal.

It is not illegal to not have a right side mirror.
It is also not illegal to not have a rear view mirror.

However, that left side mirror must stay with no tint/obstuction.

The only bypass: auto dimming mirrors...

I'm sure you can. It would be hard for a cop to see that it's tinted. Plus the device they use has to go over the glass. They device has a U shape to it and you have to roll your window half way down and then they test it. I don't know how it can be tested on your mirrors.

Right but I am wondering do you all think it would cut down some of the glare? I realize this may be *ghetto* but I really don't want to tint my windows, and if I have to I'll look into purchasing the side mirrors with the auto dimming glass.. but if tint works on the side mirrors it can't look that bad!

why not try using some of that static cling tint on it first? i see it all the time at wal-mart and pep boys for cheap. just cut it to fit and see if it really makes a difference or if it makes it harder to see.

The problem with tint is that tint has curing time and with all the wind that hits the mirror while driving might mess it up. I'm sure a tint shop would only charge at $20 for both. They may have to cure it more b/c of the wind.

Not sure what color tint you had in mind, but this is something different that my "Tint Master" Hann recommended, although I didn't think it was for me. The yellow is supposed to improve the image clarity, be it at night or during the day.

Looks like the owner of this car is a member of CL, although I'm not sure who's car it is.

I do wear sunglasses during the day silly its just at night that it gets me!

Really? I wonder if that yellow tint prevents glaring. I guess I'll call some of my local shops. Thanks all!
