Not to bring this up from the dead for no reason but after 2 years of some crappy filter wrench I finally bought the one that the op used. I found it impossible to get tight enough at first but the it stuck (as his did). Heck. I"m going to leave it on there so next time all i need to do was insert the socket wrench.

Just did the oil change myself for the first time, couldn't have been easier, great write up, photos, and comments too, everything was spot on, except for one thing... How do I get the red light on the dash off? I updated the oil and filter mainenance schedule in my NAV unit, but the dash display still claims I need to change my oil. Any way to update this or have it match the NAV maintenance schedule? Thanks everyone

This thread helped me complete an oil change on my 2007 is350 with no problem. Very informative with the pictures.
The only post advice I have is you're either going to luck out with the cheap oil filter wrenches or not. I attempted to change my oil, the filter housing was on super tight from the dealership touching it last... and I broke 4 different wrenches from local shops. I had to change the oil without changing the filter.
I ordered and received the TOY 640 a few days later ($16.99 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...00_i00_details)... the oil filter wrench fit perfect and the filter housing was off on the first attempt.
General advice, with the right tools any job is easier.

no need for tool
I have changed is350 oil 4-5 times now. Never used any special tool to take the filter off. I just laid under the car, using a thin, about 25 cm long wood rod (rectangular shaped in cross section) and a hammer to tape the filter loose. I taped on one of the two ears on the edge of the filter, which is at right position when the filter is tightened so that the wood rod can reach it through a hole almost right under it.
I will take some pics if anyone needed.
