i dont know what makes less sense the fact that you care about how your car situation will be depedning on the school or the fact that you seem to be selecting the school based solely on their "repuation". I know people that have gone to both schools and they only went there cuz of particular programs at those schools. If your going solely on "reputation" there are much better schools in the SO cal area then UCLA and USC in general.

that quote about college is an investment doesn't really apply .. he's goin to college hence the question should be restated...

In the long run is it worth it to go to USC? That's the real question

Personally USC is about connections... UCLA is about true education..

What are you studying? If you're going to do business then USC will probably be a better

If you're going for science go to Caltech~ same price at USC but hey .. it's ranked right next to MIT

I would say forget USC and UCLA and go to Arizona State...! It is much cheaper even out of State that both those schools in state. Also much easyer to get into...you will also get a good education. Besides you will get out of school what ever you put into it.

I disagree - if he's associating which college attend to what car he could get (keep is350 vs get is-f), my quote still applies.

For example, if USC is the school he really wants/should to go to but he decides for UCLA instead so that he can get an is-f, to me personally, that's putting priority against something that is a luxury expense (car) vs investment (education).

Education first! Drive a '72 nova like I did. After med school and reesidency then get your dream car. Sacrifice now for the latter you be glad you did.

^ agree.

if i were you, i'd be less concerned about your is350 and more concerned about how much more money you can make w/ a quality college education and university degree.

oh, and there is something called FINANCIAL AID.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Bottom line is, no matter what you do or what you drive later on in life, no one's gonna give a rat's *** where you went to school. What matters most in terms of getting the dream job you want is all on your ability & knowledge. If you went to some no name college and you're a bad *** at what you do compared to someone who went to an Ivy League school but they know **** because they were more concerned w/the car they drive then who do you think is gonna get hired?

Something to think about. Seriously, no offense to the OP but until you can buy your own car and not depend on mommy and daddy's money, you should focus your attention on more worthy stuff than worrying about your car getting egged.

Both schools are very good institutions. My wife just recently graduated from UCLA on a full ride academic scholarship...needless to say she's a nerd Pre-med major. Her reward? Well, I bought her a brand new IS 350..obsidian black on black! But guess what? She drove a 95' honda civic hatchback for many years I say that to say this, get your education first regardless of the cost because your education is priceless and will last much longer than the value of a car. It sounds to me that you have a golden opportunity to select from 2 of the Nations best Universities (In my Opinion) and not to mention you're driving a 35-45k car to school!! Wow! Must me nice huh? Good luck in all your future endeavors and remember it's not about what you drive, it's about what drives you.

"getting the most for the least" is your credo, go to UCLA.
you can't afford a private education, go to UCLA.
you don't want to be an undergrad business major, go to UCLA.
you don't want a real accounting degree, go to UCLA.
you're not a TV/cinema major, go to UCLA.
you're an engineering major, go to UCLA.
you're a left wing liberal, go to UCLA.
you're a firm supporter of affirmative action, go to UCLA. (you'll probably get in too.)
you're scared of the ghetto, go to UCLA.
you think alumni networks are overrated, go to UCLA.
you think jerry buss, george lucas, neil armstrong, will farrell, robert zemekis, john singleton, ron howard, norman schwarzkopf, etc... are all overrated, go to UCLA.
all you're going to do is take classes, get your degree, become a faceless member of the working class, work at a job for the next 30-40 years and retire on social security, go to UCLA.

yes, USC is considerably more expensive than UCLA, but i don't see any need to sell your is350 to afford it. after all, selling your is350 will only pay for a year's worth of tuition...
Basically, If you aren't a business major looking to start your own business and use your alumni connections, go to UCLA.

get this image out of your head.

two equally qualified individuals each with a passion and skill for their work. one went to USC the other to UCLA...who would get get hired. obviously if a person doesnt know how to do something they aren't gonna get the job. it could go vice versa--and honestly, why do you think im going to school? cause it's fun? no, im obviously out to make a living for myself and get things done. no one is independent from day one. so maybe im spoiled, but i was raised this way, my parents are just glad that im spending 45k on a car rather than drugs. i love mommy and daddy.

btw. im gonna be a trojan, i talked about it with my parents today.

I'm in Florida, and hire high level professionals on a regular basis. If I had two resumes that were equal, one candidate from UCLA, and one from USC, it would be completely irrelevant to me. Sorry, but outside of California, no one gives a crap about the USC v. UCLA comparison. I'd rather hire the well adjusted one that communicates well, even if they didn't go to a prestiguous university. The fact is, outside of very select circles, NO ONE CARES.

By the way, Ron...your post is only a half admission. Why not just fess up and tell us that you're just looking to kill another four years on your parents' dime? They wouldn't be nearly as likely to continue footing the bill for that IS350 if you were flipping burgers.

(By the way, I'm only kidding about the last part...hope it came across that way)
