Has anyone heard of the "valve lash" TSB?
Yesterday on my way home from work, the engine light came on followed by the "Check VSC" on the display. The vehicle slowed to a crawl with no more than 25-30 MPH on WOT. At a stand still, the vehicle shook violently. It reminded me of my GF's 3-series. On that, it was later determined that the MAF sensor and throttle position sensor needed to be replaced.
Luckily, I work less that (5) miles from my regular Lexus dealer/repair facility. I drove my "limp" IS250 to the dealer and they hooked it up and found out that "Cylinder 4" was misfiring. The tech detached and reattached the ignition coil wire, reset the codes and it worked fine. He suggested that it would be best to keep it and drive it tomorrow (today). I received a call from the SA today and they informed me that there was a TSB on the "valve lash" and that was the root cause. They said it could take up to 1 1/2 weeks to have the parts arrive (Japan) and the repair completed. They mentioend that they have done one such repair before. While I am relieved that this is being taken care of, as well as giving me an 07' ES (new) as a loaner, I can't help but wonder if there are any other quality issues that I should be concered about.
I am beginning to second guess my trading up from a 2005 IS300 to the 2006 IS250.....
Keeping the faith as all products have their faults, but I guess I will have to wait and see....
