Default conventional oil to synthetic

couple questions regarding conventional vs synthetic:

1.some people said sythetic oil should be used after 5000-10000 miles while the car is fully "break-in". any comments?

2.you seals might get "attack" if you use synthetic too early (less than 5000 miles), any justification?

Thanks!

i've been using synthetics since day 1. When we received the car it had synthetic oil in it, so i doubt the seals are in any danger or else why would it go in and be in the manual too?

you shouldn't have a problem switching to synthetic right off the bat.

All Porsche models come from the factory with Mobil 1.

I'm going to start using Synthetic btw 10-15k miles.

I do believe its better to use synthetic after an engine is fully broken in and seated.

You can use synthetic at your first change. The reason it does not come from the factory with synthetic is because of cost. There is nothing to worry about seals. Leaking seals is something to worry about on old engines that have only used dino for its whole life. Also seal materials have changed through the years and they are no longer greatly affected by synthetics. The issue with seals is on very old engines that have accumulated debris around the seals (and any sludge in the engine) that may dissolve from the better detergent additives in synthetics. If you have an old engine with many miles (over 100K) that has only had dino oil in it, avoid synthetics.

I usually give the advice to let any engine run about 3,000 miles from new then switch over to another brand of oil (usually keeping the same weight) that I favor.

No they're not. The only way you're going to get synthetic oil in your Lexus is if you put in it in yourself or ask (and pay more) for it when you get your oil changed.
