The only octane my area has is 90...and thats what i use. Is sounds like metal hitting, maybe the oil pump is not priming on a cold start? I just dont know...its not clicking..it just when it starts.

I really don't know how all of that mechanic stuff works however, there is an issue with the fuel pump in some IS where it sounds like grinding metal/knocking with the fuel pump. Is it something that happens for like a span of time they goes away? Or is it immediate and then gone? And this may not be any help at all. lol

Read this thread...

It may be what you're experiencing. I had this "startup" noise that sounded like a metal ratchet in the engine. Turned out it was a VVTI controller. Many people are experiencing this. Hope this helps. It's a long thread but worth a read.

Then I'd go with what he says. I'm having the same exact issues with my car and it will be fixed in the beginning of June. I guess the parts are on back order, so tell your dealer.. he should know immediately whats going on.

The dealership replicated the noise on my car and they have the parts on order.

I hope its something easy. With the VVTI controller is that ding any damage to the car with the metal sound?

No its just oil I guess getting to the gear.. it has to do with oil pressure. I've been driving mine for two weeks with this known issue. Don't know how true this is.. but my service advisor told me its okay to drive the car. I haven't had the noise since my oil change so I'm starting to wonder if the car got low on oil or if the break down of the oil had anything to do with it.

The noise went away for a couple of weeks after my last oil change also. Unfortunately, it came back.

Yeah same here. Happens occasionally no matter how much oil is in the car or type of oil used. I'm thinking about talking to the dealer about this as well and understand parts may be on backorder.

Not good for all these new cars...I will keep everyone posted when I go to the dealer to see what they say Tuesday. For so many people having the same we think problem it should be a recall...if its all the same problem..that is.
