The factory fill (which is conventional oil) has been proven (by UOAs) to be OK at 5K so changing it sooner is just a waste of money. If you plan on changing your oil at 5K or less miles don't waste your money on synthetic.

IMO I dont think its a waste of money, unless youre changing it every 1k or something, but at 3k its good cause oil breaks down and since you like me have the 350, our cars would benefit. The car really feels like junk after 4k IMO.

I thought I was the only one experiencing that. My car was only at 4200 or some add and felt kinda sluggish. Took it in for 5k service and runs like new again.

[sarchasm] Sounds like the increased viscosity of your oil from all the metal shavings in there are slowing things down... The increased resistance within the sludgy oil must be slowing down the moving parts of your engine and you are losing horsepower... Must be a loss of 30-50 horsepower if you can feel it.. Good thing you changed your oil at 5000 miles, if you had gone to 10,000 miles before an oil change you probably would have lost over 100 horsepower... [/sarchasm]
I have 18,000+ miles on my car...i did my first oil change at 1500 miles with synthetic oil and i have changed it every 3,000 miles since using synthetic. Oil is Oil. It burns and breaks down...I don't believe that it is a waste of money...
Any brand name oil of roughly the same weight is the same.... Just like any brand name 91 or 92 or 93 gas is roughly the same...
This is not true, every oil manufacture has a different formula (different base stocks) and additive package. This is why some oils last longer then others.

I'm not saying there aren't differences between oils, I'm just saying all oils are the same
But honestly, do you really think there is more than a trivial difference in longevity? And even if there is, what is the difference? The motorsport oil (or whatever it was) in my Jaguar lasted 3 years... So who cares if another oil lasts 6 months more, or 6 months less? I mean, we all change our oil at least every year, right? So, if a cheap oil only lasts 1 years, and a quality oil like motorsport lasts 4 years, it's sorta pointless anyway... Almost like 100 octane gas in an IS350...
