i did an oil change on my car today. it was overdue in the months not milages.i did my 5k service in january and today it sits at 7750k. so its either every 5month of 5000miles i do the oil change.question: do u guys change oil at 5k for 3k?

imma go ahead and say five. i only got 1074 miles on mine but ill do it every 5. i used to do it by 3 on other cars but i think 5 would be just as fine.

because i got it at a lube master place, and it said 3k but the light comes every 5k so im do that then thanks for ur input

if you drive like the average person then u can go 5,000 miles on conventional oil between OCI.

you can go longer with synthetics depending on brand.

mobil 1 will go 10,000.

amsoil will go 25,000.

redline is great for ppl who track their cars.

people also like royal purple.

you can buy these oils and have your service department use them instead of what they got and they will remove the cost of their oil from the oil change price.

becareful cuz some mechanics might steal your oil and stuff in regular.

other places like jiffy lube are known to charge you but not change your oil, oil filter or both.

i even heard of one time they drained the oil but didn't fill it back up and the driver drove away until the engine seized!

it all depends on how you drive and what you want the car to do.

I'll be using mobil 1 or royal purple and changing it every 5k.

I do lots of cold starts and sometimes don't drive enough to get the engine oil to the optimal operating temp.

that'll shorten engine oil life.

I'm not willing to risk the life of my engine for a once-every-three-months $20 oil change...

Use one of the leading synthetic oils and at 5K miles send a sample out to Blackstone Labs to get a used oil analysis (UOA - $22.50) and you will know exactly how many more miles you can safely go. Why guess, why waste money and time?

How do you risk the life of your engine by changing out the oil more often? I change mines every 5k but I noticed that at about 4k the car feels really sluggish, so from now on Im doing every 3k.

use 87 from some no brand instead of 91 from shell or bp.

ya, true.... So allow me to clarify...

Any brand name oil of roughly the same weight is the same.... Just like any brand name 91 or 92 or 93 gas is roughly the same... Anyone who claims "more power" or "smoother engine" performance from 93 gas vs 91 gas should be adding "Slick 50" to their engine... hehe....

I went 3 years on regular dino oil in my Jaguar for almost 10k miles and everything was fine... Still had plenty of additive left (TBN)... So this whole concept of changing your oil every 6 or 12 months regardless of mileage is just plan silly... Hence my lol in the above post...

The factory fill (which is conventional oil) has been proven (by UOAs) to be OK at 5K so changing it sooner is just a waste of money. If you plan on changing your oil at 5K or less miles don't waste your money on synthetic.

I have 2,400 mi. on 2IS, It's now 3 month over due from the 5 month but not the 5k mi. mark. I do drive my car every day to and from work, on an average of 30 mi. per day. Do I need to have the oil change or wait until 5k mi. Thanks for the input.
