for the most part, paint is paint. doesnt matter if its a civic or a $40K lexus. why would you spend $40k on a car and not spend $500 for a clear bra? doesnt make sense to me. and dont tell me you cant afford it! :-p

My SGM with a clear bra looks 100% perfect after 5,500 miles. i wash it about twice a week with all the right stuff and using the right procedures and i dont have a single swirl mark.
I don't disagree with you about the EPA, but why are Honda and others able to sell cars that don't require clearbras and don't chip?

While I'm not ready to say Honda and other cars have better paint, I will say out of all the cars I've had my Lexus cars seem to have the softest paint and most rock chips. I notice this the week I took home our brand new 04 RX330 back in 2003. Within the first week my front end already had rock chips. Within the first month I had well over 10 rock chips. Obviously by the time I sold it early this year my front end could have really used a paint job. Now, I don't use any clear bra or and fabric bra. To be fair, I don't use them on any of other cars either. It took over 10 years for my other cars to have the weathered damage in the front that my 4 year old RX had. I've also noticed the Lexus paint (At least 2004+ since my 99 LS paint seem much more durable) etches really easily. My 92 Acura seemed to have a rock solid paint job. It had very few paint chips and that car rode only about 4" off the ground with the front lip about 2.5" or so.
