LEAN says:
hey, you know how some cars have brown cloudy headlights?
LEAN says:
what causes it? cos i i saw heaps of jap cars have that issue
Robiteru Junichi Yinamoto : Idolizing Ari Gold says:
car bras will do it
LEAN says:
so they are caused by car bras?
Robiteru Junichi Yinamoto : Idolizing Ari Gold says:
1 of the causes
Robiteru Junichi Yinamoto : Idolizing Ari Gold says:
cause the headlight gets hot and if theres a carbra then the heat gets trapped
Robiteru Junichi Yinamoto : Idolizing Ari Gold says:
headlight burns
Robiteru Junichi Yinamoto : Idolizing Ari Gold says:
start stop traffic will do it too
Robiteru Junichi Yinamoto : Idolizing Ari Gold says:
like sitting there with headlight on. it just starts to heat up
Robiteru Junichi Yinamoto : Idolizing Ari Gold says:
if its moving its fine cause the air cools the headlight
LEAN says:
there was a LS430 maybe 2004 model and it's headlights were all cloudy and brown
Robiteru Junichi Yinamoto : Idolizing Ari Gold says:
start stop traffic with HID on
Robiteru Junichi Yinamoto : Idolizing Ari Gold says:
and him not using his headlight washers to cool the headlights
LEAN says:
so it's mainly caused by heat and trapped heat?
Robiteru Junichi Yinamoto : Idolizing Ari Gold says:
yeah
Robiteru Junichi Yinamoto : Idolizing Ari Gold says:
cooks the headlight
LEAN says:
saw a few s2k like that man
Robiteru Junichi Yinamoto : Idolizing Ari Gold says:
yeah cause HID is hot
He's got a post i recon.

If you're convinced that it is caused by HID's and/or clear bras, that is fine. I'm not exactly sure what else to tell you. There are plenty of cars without either one that get them as well as cars that have both that do not. If you're convinced otherwise, the fix is simple. Don't use a clear bra and stick with halogen headlights.

I think it is caused by oils and other contaminates lifted from the road and sprayed on the vehicle when the roads are wet. Left over time it "bakes" on the lens. I think you have to stay on top of your vehicle and clean the lens every two weeks. When I was my vehicle's I wash the headlights two times. On my 2005 4Runner I don't have any signs of any headlight haze.

plastics get cloudy because the polymers are fractured by sunlight and heat, making them less transparent.

but the projector lens' are glass aren't they? if there is discoloration of the lens then i bet it's caused by a gas from the engine or pollution that gets into the headlight housing that then reacts with sunlight causing some kind of residue because of redox.

When i had my 2001 IS300 I ran the HID’s during the day in the summer for about 3 years ,,,,,both clear covers "hazed". One was worse, and it was replaced under warranty,,,,, that position must have had less air flow and the excess heat of the HID bulb combined with the heat of the day to overheat the bulb and lens. That bulb also started to gradually fail (lower intensity of brightness).

I only run HID’s during the day now if its raining ,,,,,,, I do this to make me more visible, so that some dufus doesn’t pull into my lane as I go by, etc. I highly doubt occasionally running the lens washer would have any significant impact on cooling them.
