It's not always as easy or convenient as it may seem. I once waited over 6 hours for a Lexus Roadside Assistance tow and I was standed in the middle of the afternoon in Washington, D.C., so it wasn't like I was out in the "boondocks." That was in 2004, and I still have the $50 traveler's check they gave me for my inconvenience.

I'm deffinitely painting mine. Last week some how I got a flat and the hole was in the sidewall and couldn't get fixed. I ordered a new tire from discounttiredirect.com but it was sold out in most of the US and took almost a week to come from AZ. I was driving for a week (untill today) with that ugly looking yellow spare. It would look much better if it was black.

I think it's yellow for a reason. I know if I ever have to throw that thing on, I'm going to make sure I get the regular tire fixed as soon as possible and back on the car.

Painting it was the second thing that crossed my mind when I saw it, the first thing was, "$40K car and it doesn't even come with a full size spare!!!"
I agree they probably made it ugly so you get the other tire fixed asap.
