15k Scheduled Maintenance
I called and scheduled an appointment for my 15k scheduled maintenance on my IS 350. The guy quoted me just a bit over $400. Is this normal? I do not need to have my tires rotated or balanced, so it should be a bit lower than what he quoted. Is there anything on the 15k that is unnecessary which I can bypass, in order to save some money. Thanks!!

The right service tech should be able to bring it down to about $250 at a Lexus dealership.
However, it's only an oil change, AC filter change, tire rotation (which is not done for the IS) and everything else are just "check-ups." You can get everything done for much less by doing yourself, taking it to a Toyota dealership instead, or just asking for an oil change rather than a "15k checkup."

Dude....All they do is inspecting this and inspecting that (I believe they didn't even do it, they just change your oil, oil filter, cabin filter, and....that is it. No inspection at all, who's going to verify that?). Why waist your $300 dollars for that? You could have used that money to mod the car.

i paid about $250-something. $400 sounds abnormally high.
prior to owning my 2is i never subscribed to the concept of taking my car to the dealership for service. however, i can't trust the maintenance of my car to any ol' joe mechanic. i'd rather pay a premium and have peace of mind, than pay much less and roll the dice.

I thought it was free also. My service visits are fully covered up to and including the 25K service.
By the way, it is a Lexus, but realize that it is also a high end Toyota. That is the reality of it. Look under the hood of an IS350 and the new Camry and you won't notice many differences.
For what its worth, I've owned many Toyotas and never did much other than routine oil changes, tire rotation (not needed for the IS), battery replacements at 5 years, brake pads, belts, wheel alignments, air filter changes, tune ups, and maintenance of fluid levels.
My 1992 Celica GT never went in for the "recommended service", and gave me 10 years and 280K miles of reliable performance. The only time I was stranded was when I got a flat. The dealer was always nagging me to get maintenance I didn't need, but I kept rejecting. They will try to sell you everything from radiator flushes, to fuel injector cleanings, blah, blah. These things aren't necessary. My thought is that the more you tinker with a car, the reliability begins to drop.
In addition, they never do "checkups" on the things that they claim. I've gone in before with lower than normal tire pressure on my Toyota as it was time to change the oil, and they're supposed to check tire pressure. Guess what? It was the same pressure when I got the car back. Yet, the service techs checked off on the box where it says "Tire Pressure". I've called their bluff before.
The best service tech is yourself, as no one really cares about your car except you.
